WEAVING A LOUNGE CHAIR WITH WARP [ENG/ESP]

Hello HIVE, I hope everyone is doing well expressing their creativity through art.

Hola HIVE espero que todos se encuentren muy bien expresando su creatividad con el arte.

For two years I have been collaborating with an artist named Julio Loaiza, he specializes in weavings of all kinds, it is part of his line of research with more than 20 years, during this time he has been creating a workshop in the basement of his house located in the area of La Pastora, in the city of Caracas, Venezuela; The workshop is the base or home for a project he has been working on for years called "Macolla Creativa" two years ago I began to form part of his work team and I have helped him build that workshop, (later in another publication I will talk in more detail about that workspace) since I have been collaborating with him, every so often he comes to me when weaving projects arrive and this last week a beach chair (lounger) arrived to be restored and woven, I took care of that work.

Desde hace dos años colaboro con un artista llamado Julio Loaiza, él se especializa en tejidos de todo tipos, es parte de su línea de investigación con más de 20 años, en este tiempo ha estado creando un taller en el sótano de su casa ubicada en la zona de la Pastora, en la ciudad de Caracas, Venezuela; el taller es la base o el hogar para un proyecto que lleva años trabajando llamado "Macolla Creativa" desde hace dos años comencé a formar parte de su equipo de trabajo y lo he ayudado a construir ese taller, (luego en otra publicación hablare más a detalle de ese espacio de trabajo) desde que estoy colaborando con el cada cierto tiempo acude a mi cuando llegan trabajos de tejidos y esta última semana llego una silla playera (tumbona) para ser restaurarla y tejida, yo me encargue de ese trabajo.

I would weave this chair with PVC warp fibers, it was a restoration, but this chair is one of those sold in wholesale stores, which means that they are not created with ergonomic designs to be woven, in fact, I had to remove the synthetic fiber that it had before and it was all stapled, that was a sign to know that this restoration was going to be a little complicated, because we do weave with the purpose of the chairs having an aesthetic finish.

Esta silla la tejería con fibras de urdimbre de PVC, era una restauración, pero esta silla es de las que venden en tiendas mayoristas, lo que significa que no son creadas con diseños ergonómicos para ser tejidas, de hecho, yo le tuve que quitar la fibra sintética que tenía antes y estaba toda engrapada, esa fue una señal para saber que iba a ser un poco complicado esta restauración, porque nosotros si tejemos con el propósito de que las sillas queden con un acabado estético.

I started with the weaving. The client requested specific colors: beige, white, brown, and yellow. I left several spaces unwoven to finish them at the end, since they were the corners, and as I mentioned before, this chair isn't ergonomically designed. I had to figure out how to cover those corners with the fiber so they wouldn't look ugly. It took me three days just to weave the base; this chair is very large, and it took time. The good thing is that I'm always well-served with good food when I have this type of time-consuming work.

Comencé con el tejido, el cliente exigió colores específicos, beige, blanco, marrón y amarillo; fui dejando varios espacios sin tejer para rematarlos al final, ya que eran las esquinas y como mencioné antes esta silla no tiene un diseño ergonómico, había que ingeniárselas para cubrir esas esquinas con la fibra y que no se vean sin buena estética. Me tarde 3 días solo tejiendo la base, es muy grande esta silla, me llevo tiempo. Lo bueno es que siempre soy bien atendido con buena comida cuando tengo este tipo de trabajos que requieren tiempo.

Then I continued with the chair back, which is a detachable piece, allowing me to weave more comfortably. After I finish weaving it, I can reattach it to the lounger to see if it can still perform the function of changing the height levels, and it actually turned out very well. We added the orange color separately, as we felt it would create a good harmony in the colors of the weaving design.

Luego continue con el espaldar de la silla, que es una pieza que se puede separar y me permite tejerla con más comodidad, después que termine de tejerla, la puedo volver a instalar en la tumbona para verificar si todavía puede seguir cumpliendo la función de cambiar los niveles de altura, y efectivamente quedo muy bien. Le agregamos aparte el color naranja ya que consideramos adecuado para generar una buena armonía en los colores del diseño del tejido.

Finally, we finished off specific areas, such as the corners, the armrests, and several seams where the chair's poor design left uncovered fabric. For this, I enlisted the help of Julio, the artist I work with and who taught me to weave, as he has more experience solving these types of problems that arise when working with fabrics.

Por último, realizamos los remates en ciertas partes específicas como las esquinas, los posa manos y varias uniones que por el mal diseño de la silla quedaban espacios descubierto de tejido; para esto si requerí de la ayuda de Julio el artista con el que trabajo y quien me enseñó a tejer, ya que él tiene más experiencia para resolver este tipo de inconvenientes que se generan cuando se trabajan con tejidos.

This was the final result of six days of continuous work, spent fabrics and working on the smallest details. The chair truly changed its appearance and took on a striking, aesthetically pleasing personality. The client was delighted with the result and sent us another one to be restored, as he had two identical ones. Este fue el resultado final de un esfuerzo de 6 días continuos de tejidos e ingenio para resolver los pequeños detalles, de verdad la silla cambio de aspecto y adopto una personalidad imponente y con muy buena estética; el cliente quedo encantado con el resultado y nos mandó otra para ser restaurada, ya que tenía dos iguales, pronto estaré compartiendo el resultado final de la otra, ya que serán otros colores en el diseño.
