@themarkymark has long since told me that it's impossibly hard to create value out of thin air. His concept being that when you create a token and people buy it, then you have to make it valuable.
Well, you don't have to make it valuable, but that's why people buy tokens so you better get your skates on!
People want to see what they buy grow, that has long since been the premise of crypto.
But how do you do that on Hive? There is a lot of value in Hive; people can stake their tokens and earn a share in governance. Level up in the chain so to speak.
If people see value in Hive then that is an extremely strong premise for a token, and one where I see that it will eventually be the spirit of hive.
Eventually.
But in crypto itself, there is zero value. Marky is in a way right.
Think of it like this -- tokens are but just dead digits on a computer sitting on a blockchain; there is no value in that whatsoever.
There is no value in money either. Money is just the vehicle in which value is transferred and stored. But on it's own? Valueless.
Here's a question -- in a world with no people -- is money valuable? If Aliens travelled to this world and used entirely different technology to us; would gold, bitcoin, and the US dollar be valuable?
No, absolutely not. It'd be worthless.
We, are the value.
Every man, woman and child that walks this lovely green and blue planet is where the value is.
Bitcoin gets its value from participation, people that use it, people that see it as useful -- if there was no participation network then Bitcoin would be worth as much as @stickupboys used underwear, and um, that's not worth a lot! lol
That is actually where the world derives value from -- participation. When you have a shared goal in anything -- be that making pictures in your garage with a group of friends, or building a spacecraft to fly to the moon -- it all is built value.
To build value, one must participate.
Participation builds meaning, and meaning transcends into value.
In short, meaning is the true essence of value.
But what do you do in a world bereft of meaning? Where people ascribe meaning to plastic notes and gold thrones?
And there is absolutely no meaning in plastic notes and gold thrones; only emptiness and the void awaits -- those that have tasted the emptiness before know.
You build with meaning.
The world is about to change my friends in ways you can't comprehend just yet but it's on the horizon.
Humanity has been starved of meaning for a long time -- this is why you see people diving head first into crazy ideologies and communities that would make your head spin to just get a small glimpse of meaning.
The sense of belonging to something higher than themselves with a greater purpose -- too great a magnetic pull for them to withstand, even if it means defending insane beliefs if only they can be a part of the few that they do believe in.
But worry not, I am now building with meaning, and Hive will have it's very own hub of sorts, which in a way is a safeguard from the crumbling of the old that's in front of us.
Those that remain and those that join us early will in fact realise that we're only in our prologue. That good things await as I build meaning all around us.
It may not seem like much now of course, but in a year?
Get ready for front and centre.
The flame won't judge you of course, neither will I. For I was a man grieving, filled with anger and hate at one point in my life.
I know what it's like to be dragged through the mud kicking and screaming and having to make peace with the other side.
But change is coming.
And truth is what awaits us.
