Aquatic plants directly or indirectly provide food, habitat for wildlife, which is important for human communities.
Some of these plants, such as the water lily, easily extract heavy metal pollutants such as silver, cobalt, strontium, cadmium, nickel, lead, mercury and gold from wastewater.

The potential for prolific growth makes these plants extraordinary in their ability to extract waste from wastewater; for this reason, they should be studied in order to have a better knowledge and be able to develop a good use of such species.
