Hello Friends,
Hope you all are well and surviving in this crucial situation. The way coronavirus is spreading around, the main goal now is to survive. Today, 2,695 people have been newly infected with the virus, bringing the total to 234,889. So far, a total of 3083 people have died of this coronavirus in Bangladesh. After being infected with the virus, however, many returned home with medical treatment. I think safety is the biggest solution to protect this deadly virus. To maintain the personal and social safety, I will present an easy disinfectant making process today.
I will make the disinfectant with a common chemical called bleaching powder. This is chlorine based chemical which is cheap and easily available in the local market. Here is the picture.
As per WHO recommendation, there are two ways to prepare chlorine based disinfectant. In fact chlorine based disinfectants can be made of two concentrations. One is 1:10 bleach solution and another is 1:100 bleach solution.
I have prepared 1:10 bleach solution here. Let’s see the process.
First you need to take one liter of water in a container. However, it should be kept in mind that when choosing a container, it must be a plastic or glass container. Because, chlorine solution will make reaction with metal and those with be corroded eventually.
Then weight 16 grams of bleaching powder in a container. Here the bleaching powder strength should be 30% which means 30% of active chlorine.
Now, you need to mix the bleach powder with water.
Use a glass rod or plastic stick to mix the power with water.
Keep the solution in a spray chamber or a plastic bottle for use.
Use of this solution
This chlorine based solution can be used to disinfect floors. It can also be used to disinfect hand gloves (if you want to reuse), boots, cars, staircase etc. It is recommended to clean the surface with water after using this disinfectant.
Precautions
It is recommended to use freshly prepared bleach solution as it’s strength doesn’t stay for long. Chlorine based bleaching powder is harmful for skin. During preparation of the solution proper PPE should be worn.
Bleach solution release chlorine. So, this solution should be prepared in a ventilated area.
As mentioned earlier, chlorine is harmful for skin, so do not apply it in direct skin.
Thanks.
Stay safe and healthy.
