Everyone is more or less reluctant towards text books.Similarly, there is more attraction towards out books.Out books mean stories, novels, delightful compositions and so on.It would be wrong to say that I am not attracted to all this.I loved reading these books since I was little. Especially short stories. But these stories, novels or delightful writings could not occupy the place of my favorite book.Although a little strange, my favorite book is the dictionary,Be it Bengali to English or Bengali to Arabic or any other language. I think the dictionary is a great magician who can teach us any language.
How did the dictionary become my favorite book?
At that time I was a student of 4th class. My attraction towards unknown has always been more.So I read English more and more. One day I saw a book on my elder sister's table. There is no cover page on this book. The book is quite big.I asked my mother what it is.My mother said it is an English dictionary. It gives Bengali meaning of all English words.I started laughing.I said this book has all the English words. Mom said yes. I can't believe it. I'll see if it has all the words. But then touching the elder sister's book is also forbidden.I kept looking for opportunities.
I fixed an English word in advance. One day I was home alone. I hurried out the dictionary and started looking for the word "different" which I had fixed beforehand. At that time I did not know how to find the word in the dictionary.I started looking for the word one by one from the first page. Finally when I found the word in the letter 'd' I got excited.
After my elder sister came home that day, I told my sister, will you let me read this book of yours? The elder sister got angry at first but later said again, well, read the book. From then on, every day I would find words from the dictionary. Gradually I learned the rules of using the dictionary by myself.
Then when I was in 5th class, my maternal uncle would go to India, so he came with a Bengali to Hindi dictionary. Seeing this, I realized that not only English but also all languages can be learned from dictionary. As I got older, my love for dictionaries continued to grow. I started collecting different types of dictionaries from Bengali to English, from English to Bengali, from Bengali to Bengali, from English to English.
Dictionary devotion takes my intense shape when I come close to my favorite teacher.Of course, not only the dictionary but also the meaning of education has been learned from Sir.Besides learning how important a dictionary is to learn English from sir, as well as explaining which dictionary is better, learn how to get words out of the dictionary quickly,Learn from Sir.
Sir competed with us to use the dictionary. I was 2nd out of words in 21 seconds that day. Now I have some other dictionaries besides Oxford, Student Favorites and several dictionaries of Bangla Academy. Once I had the opportunity to travel to Malaysia. Although English is a universal language, not everyone can speak English.I had a Malay to Bengali dictionary so I could easily talk to people of all classes. Even I can still speak Malay well.
Think of one thing, two birds are sitting and chirping. You can't understand what they are saying. In the same way, even if two people speak a language you don't know, you will feel the same way. And the dictionary is the instant solution. So I dream of having a library in my house. There will be all kinds of books with a huge dictionary. There will be dictionaries for all languages.
Despite my interest in dictionaries, I can't write well in English due to lack of usage.I am not used to write in english. There are many grammatical mistakes in my English writing and also choosing words is not so good.
After joining Hive, I am trying to learn to write in English by reading the posts of those who write in English here.
