December and a year are over and it's time to conclude the weather of the last month with my own weather data + announcing the winner of the last weather game. Congratulations @sjarvie5, you win again!! You guessed 5 degrees C and the maximum temperature was 5.7C. The last hours of December chose you as the winner as the evening got really warm, it was a close one. 10 HIVE will be sent to you shortly.
Also, big thanks to @livinguktaiwan, @eolianpariah2, @malos10, @cryptopaddy801, @clareartista for participation last month. Feel free to join in again the new game in this post!
Weather Game Round 4
For the month of January, I have decided to do something different. You have to guess, how deep will be the snow cover of the area I live in on the last day of this January. My weather station does not measure snow depth so the national weather service will be the judge of that. The area where I live is circled in red and right now the measurement is 0 cm as of today, all the deep snow we had is melted now due to warm periods.
So, what do you think, how deep is the snow on the 31st of January? Submit your guess below in the comments. The closest answer will win 10 HIVE! Your guess can be in CM or IN, whatever you like.
One guess per person.
The last day to submit your guess is the 17th of January.
December weather review
The weather was from one severity to another this last month. Had some really cold times and thaw with warm days. A great snowstorm also fits in this time. More of the details are below.
All the graphs are my own weather data straight from my weather station.
Temperature and Humidity
The start of the month was much colder than average December usually is. The coldest time was 11 December at -12.1C ( 10.2F ) Things changed from the mid-month when temps started to go above 0, recording the warmest temperature of December on 31st, 5.7C (42.26F). Unfortunately these warm temps melted the snow fast. The average temp of the month was -2.9( 26.78F ).
The upper graph is temperature and the lower is air humidity.
Solar Energy and UV radiation.
UV is the blue line on the chart. It has been 0 all of the time. No UV radiation at this time of the year. Solar energy has been a bit higher at the end of the month, even had a couple of bright and sunny days. In total, we had 3 sunny days in December 😀. Pretty crazy, I miss the sunshine so much.
Rainfall/Snowfall
In total, we got 28.7mm( 0.91in ) of rain, some of which is a snow melt. Overall we got much more precipitation by snowfall at the start of the month. My chart cant show you snow depth. At mid-month we had more than 30CM of snow depth but it all melted away, only some piles now remain. This is what you need to guess for the month of January. How much of snow will we have by the end of the month?
The upper graph is the rainfall rate and below is the accumulation.
Wind
We have had a couple of stronger wind events but nothing major. The strongest wind gust happened on 31st and was 16.8 m/s ( 37.5mph ). Overall it was an average month in terms of the wind. The average wind speed was 4.6m/s ( 10.2mph ). I would still like to get some more interesting and stronger winter storms.
The majority of the wind came from the south direction.
Air Pressure
Started up the month at a really high and has been lower since. The end of the month saw more low-pressure systems and that shows pretty well on the chart. The lowest reading 991.9hpa happened on the 12th of Dec and this was a result of the winter and snowstorm we had. I uploaded a video of this event if you saw it.
Since the year ended, in a couple of days, I will be doing a year review of the maximum and minimum parameters and extremes of the year, which will be really interesting to see. Will show you which month was the windiest and which was the hottest and so on... I'm looking forward to seeing this data myself too!
And don't forget to participate in the weather game this month, the more guesses the more fun it is!
