What is an example of a legendary item in your world? Is the item a real thing or a myth?
Well, I mentioned to my cousin that I was going to make the legendary item something punny and useless. So, with that said, an example of a Legendary item in my fantasy setting would be the Amulet of Heeling
Amulet of Heeling
This is a simple and rather dull piece of jewelry. It is a simple polished tab of bark from the lost magical tree of Gornada, an ancient magically embued tree that is said to reside somewhere within Wood Elf territory. Nobody knows when the amulet was created, but it is generally considered to be the work of an Apprentice Enchanter from a middling Master of Enchantments. In modern terms, the amulet is roughly the size of a dog tag and features a roughly carved hammer, tack, and awl. At first glance, one could easily be fooled into thinking this was a leatherworking amulet, but the use of this amulet is much more niche than that. For this is the highly sought-after "Cobblers Amulet," capable of granting the wearer general knowledge about cobbling, which is the art of repairing shoes.
The amulet is rather limited in scope, but in the right hands can prove to be quite the lucrative item. The Amulet of Heeling requires an owner to expel the one and only spell it contains to gain the knowledge of Cobbling for a short 12 hours. The amulet slowly recharges its power over 48 hours, after which it may be used once again. The amulet does not grant the wearer the ability to create shoes out of nothing, and they do not grant the wearer to repair shoes that are too damaged. But if you lose a hobnail or need a seam stitched back up this amulet will grant the wearer those abilities.
The Amulet of Heeling is very real and has been the bane of many a Clerics existence, when they've been verbally sent to fetch a "healing amulet." Once they find out the true nature of the necklace most Clerics hurl the amulet away, as most people with advanced education know how to repair their shoes. Where the amulet shows its true value is with children and those of a similar mental efficiency. It allows even toddlers that wear the amulet (and are able to trigger the spell) to repair shoes. And it has been discovered that repeatedly using the amulet has wonderful knock-on effects by giving the wearer procedural memory. It's akin to knowing how to ride a bike without ever having ridden a bike. Long-term users of the amulet make excellent Cordwainers, or people that really do make the shoes, and not just repair them, due to the muscle memory of repairs. It's almost like giving yourself innate skills that you weren't born with.
This amulet was inspired by a list of 100 punny D&D items
