This is not my day off, nor am I on holiday. Even less, I am absent from work. I'm just a woman who needs a break, a moment. I won't lie to you... I informed my superiors at the office that I would not be at work today because I was ‘unwell’. But the truth is that I needed to spend my weekday hours, at least once in a very long time, in a different way. .... Judge me however you want. But honestly, we're not meant to live from repetition to repetition....
I slept, woke up at 08:00 a.m. I had the coincidence that my daughter's teacher, the day before, announced on the school WhatsApp group, that she would be absent for a couple of days due to some medical tests she had to take.... I guess, indirectly, I let myself be influenced by that information.... Anyway, I woke up, made breakfast for my baby and myself, watered the plants in my garden, and left my daughter at her best friend's house while I decided to go for a walk.
Neither could I, nor did I want to be in a confined place. I felt like in a jazz session where all the musicians have to improvise their entrances and make a composition without knowing each other, and without agreeing. In short, my body, but above all my mind, was asking for rhythm, beat, rhythm, melody; you know.... I started walking along a path, and when I really realised where I was, I couldn't explain how I had arrived at that place... I was immersed in absolute nothingness. I was immersed in absolute nothingness. Only in the sounds and music, which a great friend shared with me.
Once again, the power of good music makes everything a little bit better. .... There is a certain beauty in chaos and improvisation. And believe me, I am confessing it to you from a woman who loves control in the strictest of senses? I like to be surrounded by nature and appreciate my surroundings. Sometimes, I think that whoever designed parts of my neighbourhood, also thought the same as me... Trees that create a ‘roof’ with their branches and leaves in the middle of the concrete. The green, camouflaged with brown and grey; colours that are an environment. United in the landscape. The winter light, which is also noticeable in a Caribbean country...
Rather than the usual yellow of the evenings, it is rather bluish and grey... Like the ensemble of a good jazz band. Of the latter, Charlie Parker, a little something or other, I'm sure he knew a thing or two... My day began with a decision and part but that was as far as my mastery went. I needed a bit of solitude, a break from routine but still connection and meaning. All things that cannot be measured and that each person places a subjective value on. However, sometimes you have to realise that certain things in life are a jazz increscendo rather than a measured, planned, brilliantly executed symphony. A little heavy metal wouldn't hurt either...
