Music is the sister I've never had, the best companion I'll ever have, the truest friend of mine, the most relatable thing I've ever known. It is a part of my world, my sun on dark days.
If music was a person!
Music has been my solace and safe place since birth. I've always loved music. I'm a Christian and I have lived most of my life in the church. I always admire the way the choir rendered their piece in each service and I craved being a part of the choir but I was so young then and I couldn't be a part of the big choir.
As soon as I grew much older and had the ability to go places on my own, I joined the choir and I have been there till date. I sing Alto in the choir and it's my best of all the parts. If you listen closely to songs you'll realise that without the alto part, the harmony of the song isn't really there. Or is this just my thought? Maybe!
My Favourite Musical Instrument
My favourite musical instrument is the keyboard. No musical instrument beats the melody from a keyboard. I have tested a lot of musical instruments ranging from guitar, drum, saxophone, trumpet and so on but none of them gives me the satisfaction I get when I sing like the keyboard.
Something about the keys of the keyboard blows my mind. I actually ended up trying to learn how to play the keyboard but one way or the other, I didn't complete the training so I only know how to play the usual d r m f s l t d on the keyboard π
How I developed the habit of listening to music and singing
I loved music in school as a kid. It was always a good method teacher's used to make learning interesting for us. Before any lesson began, we would be asked to sing a song, recite rhymes and clap in a bid to keep us energized and ready for learning.
Furthermore, I have these very sad and unpleasant memories of growing up. I was always picked on and I was always getting into trouble. There came a time I was constantly mocked at in class and so I became very reserved. I stopped socialising with other classmates and all I would do was sing and cry alone.
Each time I'm hurt, offended or happy, I look for a song that explains how I felt at the moment and I'll get lost in it. Till date, nothing has changed.
Sometimes a good music is the only motivation that helps me finish my tasks whenever I'm working. It helps me work with concentration and more speedily.
What kind of songs do I listen to?
I listen to sad, emotional songs a lot. I listen to love songs too. π As a Christian, I listen to gospel songs as well. I love the songs of Lucky Dube so I listen to a couple of reggaes.
My Favourite Musicians
I'm a die hard fan of Tatiana Manaois and Mercy Chinwo. Tatiana sings the most emotional and touching songs I've ever listened to. I like her and I can always connect to her songs. She's pretty and has a lovely voice as well.
I love Mercy Chinwo because her songs carry a kind of anointing and gives me this powerful feeling that I don't really have when I listen to other gospel artists.
Final Notesβ¦
I don't know if I would survive the world without music. I love how music expresses our most felt feelings, how it heals, how it inspires, how it educates. Music is a huge part of life! I'll forever love music.π
