The history of music is full of characters who are burdened by vices, by excesses which, far more than bringing them pleasure, turn out to bring them a lot of sorrow. Eric Clapton has not lived one life (from my point of view) but about 4 or 5. He has lived on the edge, for decades. Especially since his "debut" with his first, well known band Cream.

But also, as a solo artist within his successful, wide-ranging and virtuoso career as a musician, composer, guitarist, arranger and British rock/blues icon, he overcame adversity of his own making and learned from the (somewhat bitter) lessons that some aspects of life leave behind.
You see, one aspect that makes Clapton truly a legend is that he is a white man with an enormous respect, passion and love for the origins of rock and roll. Precisely, with the blues. That, as a child, and under the influence of his mother, maternal aunt and grandmother, was instilled in him as a value worthy of love and attention.

This made a young Eric, picking up the guitar that was given to him at the age of 13, and which he could not master at all, become obsessed (in a good way) to perfect the technique in chords, arpeggios and accompaniments; with one goal in mind: to emulate the blues classics that he loved so much. This routine, little by little and with effort, made him extraordinary. A guitarist with a lot of class and mastery of black blues technique and an undisputed master of the music.
Ésto hizo que un joven Eric, cogiera la guitarra que le fue obsequiada a los 13 años de edad, y que para nada podía dominar, terminará obsesionándose (de buen modo) para perfeccionar la técnica en acordes, arpegios y acompañamientos; con un objetivo en mente: emular a los clásicos de blues que él tanto ha amado. Esta rutina, de a poco y con esfuerzo, lo hizo extraordinario. Un guitarrista con mucha clase y dominio de la técnica negra del blues y un indiscutido de la música.
In this sense, his (Clapton's) life was going to smile on him. With some friends from high school, he started a band, which would go on to transcend, not only in the UK but all over the world: The Yardbirds, which was a well-crafted blend of classic English pop and classic southern Mississippi blues from the US.
Those were wonderful years, and who at the beginning was known by their colleagues and fans as "Slow-Hand" ended up becoming "God!" already within a new, more psychedelic, technically better and experimental stage. And yes, obviously I am referring to the period that includes his time in another glorious English rock and roll band: Cream. Where he formed a marvellous trio, which we all still remember today.

Now, he was always a big fan of good sound and good musicians. And maybe I'm saying it wrong when I express myself in the past. He is a musician of refined tastes, champagne, stylised. Hence, his love and remarkable friendship with none other than George Harrison! Which, until the latter's death, was mutually reciprocated. Both rock and music geniuses had a lot of affection, affection, admiration and even shared stages together. They helped and inspired each other while making songs or arrangements for their respective bands.

On the other hand, not everything is happiness, pleasure, success and joy. I wish it had been but life, as we all know it, always tends to have moments that are really traumatic and painful. This very thing I describe happened to the great Eric Clapton in the 1990s. For the artist, it was a significantly difficult time on a personal level.
His 4 year old son fell from a skyscraper in Manhattan, New York, dying instantly. It was his first-born son, since also at that time it was discovered the affair he had for years with another woman, who was not his wife, and from which (fruit of the "relationship") resulted a baby girl, who after the year 1991 was recognized, and was already six years old... Quite a drama.
Por otro lado, no todos es felicidad, placer, éxito y alegrías. Me gustaría que así hubiese sido pero la vida, como todos la conocemos, siempre tiende a tener momentos que son realmente traumáticos y dolorosos. Esto mismo que describo, le sucedió al gran Eric Clapton en la década de los 90's. Que para el artista fue significativamente difícil en lo personal.
Su hijo de 4 añitos, cayó de un rascacielos ubicado en Manhattan, New York, muriendo instantáneamente. Era su primogénito, ya que también en esa época se descubrió el affaire que tuvo por años con otra mujer, que no era su esposa, y de la cual (fruto de la "relación) resultó una nena, que pasado el año 1991 fue reconocida, y ya contaba con seis años de edad... Todo un drama.
It doesn't end here, a decade earlier. That is to say, in the 80's, the strong addictions to alcohol and cocaine, put his life at risk, more than once. Threatening to take away the passion, the artistic and musical talent, and above all, the magic that only a guitarist like Eric Clapton could (and indeed, did) bring to the whole world.

It's really funny, because I didn't live through any of the great rock eras where Clapton was undisputedly one of the greatest minds and figures. But that reality does not restrict the recognition and homage that such a genius deserves. Honour and glory to the greats of music, to those people who changed everything, who were not afraid to live. And even though they made mistakes, in the end they knew how to correct and be unforgettable.
Esto no acaba aquí, una década antes. Es decir, en los 80's, las fuertes adicciones al alcohol y a la cocaína, pusieron en riesgo su vida, más de una vez. Amenazando con llevarse la pasión, el talento artístico y musical, y sobre todo, la magia que sólo un guitarrista como Eric Clapton podría (y de hecho, le trajo) al mundo entero.
Es realmente curioso, debido a que yo no viví ninguna de las grandes época del rock donde Clapton fue indiscutidamente unos de las mejores mentes y figuras. Pero esa realidad no restringe el reconocimiento y el homenaje que un genio como este se merece. Honor y gloria a los grandes de la música, a esas personas que cambiaron todo, que no tuvieron miedo de vivir. Y que aunque, se equivocaron, al final supieron corregir y ser inolvidables.
