Lean on me was released by Bill Withers in 1972 but is still a hit today and will forever be a classic as it is sung in times of crisis. It just has a way of making people feel better.
During COVID-19 when the world took a drastic turn Lean on me was sung mostly by doctors, nurses, and celebrities.
Lean on me is a friendship song that promotes the importance of having a good friend to lean on in desperate times.
Sometimes in our lives
We all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow
The song begins by making us understand the importance of knowing and accepting that challenges of life are inevitable as they do not have any timetable, they can show up this minute and show up in the next two hours but the only consolation is that “there’s always tomorrow”.
When faced with challenges I always tell myself that it is just a phase and that in a week or month’s time, I will remember all the troubles I had to go through and I will laugh, I will laugh because I did not die while going through that challenge but I survived! I survived to tell the story.
Lean on me
When you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on...
Most times we go through a lot but we feel we can do it all by ourselves. I am a perfect example of this. I might be going through hard times but I will never show it or ask for help. Half the time I do that is because I do not want to bug the other person with my problem while other times I don’t want to get disappointed, but Will Bithers is letting us all understand that it is okay to ask for help, it’s okay to let our guards down and be vulnerable, no one is going to judge us, our friends will be there for us.
This song inspires me a lot as I love how Bill believes so much in friendship, it makes me forget about all the baggage that comes with friendship and embrace only the good part. It is indeed a good song.
Looking at our world today where everyone is looking out for themselves and so many people doing crazy things just to get by, it’s so hard to trust people anymore but one thing we should understand is that not everyone is the same, not everyone one is bad nor have a messed up life, good people exist and should be given a chance.
Early this year I discovered I was taking on too much without creating any room for help, was it tiring? Absolutely! As I was burning out faster than I could ever imagine.
For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need somebody to lean on
Bill makes us understand that none of us are immune to help, even if we do not need help now we all will need it eventually so we all should be good to people because we don’t know when or where we might need their help
Over here the quote “A problem shared is a problem half solved” has been changed to “A problem shared is public news” which is wrong on so many levels as people do not know when to shut up and when to talk. People are scared of asking for help as most times their challenges make headlines courtesy of the parrots that they confided in.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand
We all need somebody to lean on
No matter how wealthy you are, no matter the milestones you have achieved we all need someone to Lean on and this is not a bad thing.
Lean on me
Going through hard times? I recommend you listen to Bill's Lean on me as it is really comforting, the lyrics alone are just what you need to get by.
