For those of you that are new to my MidNight Gems series. Welcome to this nightly trip on which we will uncover & recover some amazing songs & covers.
Are you enjoying these dark days before Christmas..... and how about that music? Are you already willing to make it your "Last Christmas" and is an "ALL YOU WANT FOR CHRISTMAS" that Mariah Carey gets canceled?
Well in that case my show will be the happiest time of your year. With no Mistletoeing and chestnuts in an open fire, but let us be LIT and put something on fire....your ears maybe?

Tonight will be all about covers, and songs you might have never known were the original to that cover you like so much.
And as said I am gonna set your ears on fire, and myself because the boss did it better but this ain´t bad (and just check out there is a Xmas tree so I still played one Xmas song).
CHROMATICS "I'M ON FIRE"
Hallelujah, that is my type of Christmas song, I don´t mind hearing that driving home for Christmas. Btw isn´t Hallelujah having something to do with Xmas? If so I found a second song I wouldn´t mind rocking around that tree on.
This one has been covered by so many, but I guess Jeff Buckley did it best....after the man himself. My secret Santa, because this guy is always bringing gifts for my ears, Mr. I like it darker himself!
Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah (Audio)
After this, you can only pray for the sound of silence and have that one sink in. Now I am a cover lover, and sometimes a cover can beat the original....
I know how disturbing that may sound, but some songs sound better in the dark.
Disturbed - The Sound Of Silence
Okay, let's keep it dark but speed up that tempo, this show should not be fit to listen to with your grandparents during Christmas dinner.
The Birthday Massacre - I Think We're Alone Now
Those nice little up tempos 80´s synth songs, I love that stuff but well I think over time you must have noticed that.
This next song was turned into a Tiffany-like song, but the original had something that got lost in translation. I loved the Laura Branigan version...until I found the original by Raf
Raf - Self control
Here is another one for you, I am sure many of you thought they knew the original....
I did. But boy was I wrong, did you even ever hear of I-Ten? They sound a bit like TOTO, or is that just because I read; Producer: Steve Lukather?
Alone · I-Ten
Bananarama did it in 1983 and Ace of Base in the 90s but eat your Heart out when I say that Amy did it better. Ain´t it cruel playing a summer song in the heart of winter?
Evanescence - Cruel Summer
Let´s keep that summer feeling burning just a bit longer, I have No Doubt you like the original but I was looking for something that would just give me that warm feeling.
This girl from Ituana did it very well, I think it would not be out of place when the fire is crackling and the Gluhwine is flowing. And if you don't agree, "It´s My Show, don´t you forget".
it´s My Life - Ituana
Time flies when my ears are having fun, so let´s throw in a couple more presents. This song really works well as a duet. And I know, Kurt did it nicely and so did Lulu & David but this next one is just music to my ears.
Øllebirde - The Man Who Sold The World
Now we can argue about any cover, saying that it does not beat the original....except for this next one. Because even Trent Reznor, who created the original, says that this version is just better than anything else....but what else did you expect from "The man in Black."
Johnny Cash - Hurt
How amazing that he left us this before he left, and talking about leaving it´s time for me to say goodbye.
But not without leaving you with this last little gift, a duet from beyond the graves. It´s a shame we never saw this happening on stage.... although this comes frightening close.
Nirvana & David Bowie - The Man Who Sold the World (Golden Duet) Kurt Cobain

And as an initial hint I left you with was: Same artists but different season-related songs.
Now it´s the season to be jolly and you might have guessed that I am not big on Christmas Music, so think because the world is quiet.......
Yes I really want to give these Ecency points to you so hurry to my post and drop the connection in the comments.
What the fluff are midnight gems?
Somewhere lost in time, trying to escape out of the rabbit hole back into the rat race there is a vacuum..... that´s the place where midnight gems are found.
My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.
Who the fluff am I?
Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years...Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.
Hope you enjoyed this well-known wave of fantastic music and that you still feel like joining me on the next Midnight Gems Session coming soon.
