It was the end of the hike, and I was still alive.
The infamous MOAB 3, my favourite hiking shoeMy shoes were muddy, so I stepped into the stream to wash them off.
Looking around, I marveled at the jungle rainforest environment of this tropical island. There was so much history here involving the coming together of different people across different epochs.
The hike had been demanding. I was surprised at the trail's ruggedness and difficulty. It was also very risky. It had been foolish on my part not to do my proper research, but to be honest, I don't think anything can prepare you for a raw encounter with nature in the wild.
"Oh, you're going for a hike! Where?"
I had just stepped into the hotel elevator when I struck up a conversation with another guest, and we briefly discussed our adventures and misadventures.
I told her where I was planning to hike the following day.
Her eyebrows raised, her eyes widened, and a surprised then sly smile appeared on her lips.
"I went hiking there yesterday," she said with a fidgety look, as if she wanted to tell me something.
"How was it?" I asked her.
We were staying on the same floor, and the elevator had stopped, so we both stepped out.
"It was, mmm," she murmured with a bit of hesitation. "It was intense!"
"Fantastic! I like intense," I said.
We walked down the hall and reached our rooms.
"Oh, we're across from each other," she said.
"What a coincidence," I said with a chuckle.
"Enjoy your hike tomorrow."
"Thank you! Enjoy your snorkeling."
It was intense alright. I shook my head remembering the woman's sly grin. She knew what was in store for me, but I guess she didn't want to ruin the surprise.
