For my off-road cycle ride today, I explored some of the fields and woods that have been obtained by a building company. There are plans for a vast housing project here, so I cycled over there to have a look.
It is quite a large area, spread around the existing housing estates. There is a river bisecting this land, and I wonder how this would affect the homes in case of flooding.
I crossed over the river twice on my ride via some well-kept footbridges. There are some large fields here, but most of the area is loosely scattered woodland and meadow. A very pleasant place to ride.
Later, I moved on to Broadfield Park, on the farside of the town. On the way passing through another of my frequently visited parks, Buchan Park.
In Broadfield Park, I took the long route around the woods, something I have not done before as I usually pass through here in a straight line to get through quickly. Here, I came across an old gate post. In fact, both cast iron gate posts were still there.
Here, seen from both sides.
Evidence of times gone by!
The artificial lake is also a sign of times gone by. A time of landscaping and grand gardens, very typical of the old manor houses, of which there were many around here. All converted into public parks.
The lake is nice, looking very tranquil today with no wind.
I only covered about ten miles today, but it felt a lot more! It's probably because I stopped so many times to take pictures and just walk around a bit! 🤣. I like to explore new areas to keep it interesting.
