In the topaz light filtering in before dawn, I converse with an old friend. We commiserate and compare stories. Every human mind is unimaginably distant from one another; every heart, unimaginably close. Only at dawn and dusk do we see sharply the lines and divisions of a world clothed in surface-level differences, by the golden light that suffuses them and relishes their existence through itself. Later, I cruise through dark, cool air and solitude of the dead city. For a brief second I recapture that rapturous fullness of the joy of existence, and so many possibilities instream as to blind the spirit into silent awe.
