Hey Actifitters,
Yesterday was a holiday for Juneteenth, so of course we had planned to sleep in. Not sure what it was, maybe a noise, maybe Kaia moving around clearly worried, but something woke me up very early, after once again barely a couple hours of sleep. For some reason, I glanced outside through the window, and discovered what maybe made the noise that woke us up, a huge branch fell down in the front yard. I tried to ignore it but that was it, sleep wasn't possible anymore and I just went to check the damages.
Not a fun way to start the day. That huge branch was blocking the road and part of the neighbors' driveway. I ended up calling the cops, they showed up quickly and told me the city forest department would take care of the part blocking the street. And indeed, less than an hour later, a crew was here to clean up the mess on the road. I was impressed by the efficiency of the whole thing. Apparently many trees and branches fell down because of the severe storms overnight, and yet they were very quick to respond.
Of course Kaia had to thoroughly check this new thing.
The local deer also seemed very interested, three of them spent some time inspecting it.
The antlers look very cool!
At that point, most of the motivation for the day was gone and we went back to bed for a few hours. Funny how the afternoon weather was so different with the sun showing up. Perfect for espressos on the deck.
Of course, our furry friends joined the party, Kaia constantly bringing a tennis ball to throw, and Le Chat just sitting there being cute!
Eventually, she got tired of Kaia moving too much though, and she let her know.
After the city crew left, we didn't even check what they did. But they did a good job, the street was completely cleared and only what's still on my front yard needs to be taken care of. I don't own a chainsaw, and even the ones I could borrow are probably too small for this tree. I might need to hire somebody to take care of it.
In the meantime, Kaia found something new to climb.
That's when they're not busy exploring with Le Chat.
Finally, to close out the day's activities, we started our long walk of the day, to the forest of course.
Kaia was very happy to find new puddles from the heavy rain overnight.
Maybe all that rainwater will help the green colors stay longer. It's supposed to get very hot this week end though, so we'll see if it stays green.
We managed to catch the early sunset for once.
Usually Kaia quickly lead us out of the forest after our last loop, but this time she took her time enjoying more puddles.
When we finally made it to the last blocks near home, a few more clouds started to appear, but we didn't really pay attention. Good thing we were almost home though, because less than half an hour later, heavy rain and thunder again! Strange Michigan weather...
Well, the day didn't start great, but in the end, we enjoyed our day off. Except for a couple meetings, we'll probably take it easy on Friday too. It's almost like a 4 day week end. Let's see how active we can stay with the heat.
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.
