Just finished the most beautiful hike of my life. Has anyone here hiked the Path of the Gods on the Amalfi Coast? If not, you are missing out! It affords spectacular views and it is a major workout.
The views are simply spectacular.
We actually started, not from the trailhead, but in Praiano. Which means we had to scale about 1,900 steps just to reach the trail.
There was a point in which I thought the stairs would never end.
Someone who started an hour before us fell off the trail, unfortunately. It was very sad. You can see the search-and-rescue helicopter looking for the hiker. Eventually, she was found, but, sadly, she did not make it out alive.
At one point, my son lost his hat and I had to climb down a few feet to retrieve it. Not sure I would have done that had I known that someone perished on the trial.
We stopped along the way for refreshments.
Unfortunately, we could not buy the wine made from this vineyard. :)
We met some friends on the way.
The terrain was varied.
Eventually, we descended into Positano. More steps! This time, we were going down, not up. It was easier, but it was not easy. Lots of wear and tear on my old knees!
When we reached Positano, we looked into the local church, where we found a wedding in progress.
We eventually took a boat back to Praiano. There is no way that I could have gone back up the stairs and hiked back to Praiano.
If you get the chance, go do this hike while you are young enough and healthy enough. I probably waited too long--I will be recovering for a while. It was only about 15,000 steps, but it was the terrain that was so tough. It was 144 flights of stairs!
