This is going to be a sad post... And not because I want it to be (or want it to be), no. In fact, I'm doing it to use it as a kind of personal catharsis. You see, for me, The Beatles are the greatest band in the history of contemporary music. They simply don't have a point of comparison or anything like it to be measured against.... Evidently, I and any other fan of the boys from Liverpool have to make do with seeing only two of their four original members live... Both Harrison and Lennon left this world some time ago...
For me, Paul McCartney means hope. He is my favourite Beatle of all time, and a musician for whom I feel the greatest of personal affection and admiration. The only reason I ever tried to play bass was because of his Influence.... This is not to say, in any way (I insist) that the other renowned figures of the band, I despise... Absolutely, nothing to do with that... But one has one's little heart, and in it, there will always be room for Paulie. I love that guy like you wouldn't believe.

Obviously, he (McCartney) must have no idea who I am.... Like me, there are a lot of people who have him as their absolute idol. These guys, no matter which one we're talking about, have simply transcended their own historical time.... They've become, sort of, a World Heritage Site.... But back to the matter that saddens me.
For several months, I would say at least six months, I already knew that Paul McCartney would be performing in Argentina: specifically in two shows. The first one, on October 5th in Buenos Aires, at River Plate, and the second one almost at the end of the month, on the 26th, in Córdoba...
Can you imagine my eternal frustration? I live in the north of Venezuela, the country with one of the worst crises in the world, practically isolated from the rest of the planet, because only a handful of flights enter the country directly... In addition, I have not been able to renew my passport because it is ridiculously expensive to do so, and I am a mother and I have other more basic priorities.... At 82, Paulie is touring the world. He's toured countries where, with tears in the eyes of his fans, they chant all the Fab Four's hits. I learned to love them because my father instilled it in me, and it has been a deep love.
‘Blackbird’, a well-known song by The Beatles, performed by McCartney, was the definitive trigger to write these lines... Then, like a powerful bolt of lightning, I came to my senses and realised that the most important emblem of music, the most influential person in my life, is not immune to the passage of time. It's an acoustic track, so whatever detail there is, it will be perceived without any problems. And no, it's not a technical problem or anything like that... Just hearing how the voice is becoming more and more like a grandfather's, it makes my heart shrivel up.

We tend to believe that the famous people we love and admire are immune to the same things that affect us? Big mistake, my friends. Besides, Paulie's visits to Buenos Aires couldn't possibly go ‘unnoticed’. The guy drove his car as if he was just another Argentinean on the road. He greeted fans outside his hotel, and even chatted nicely with them. This time it was noticeable that he deliberately improved his Spanish in order to be able to exchange dialogue with an audience that worships him like a God (myself included, from the inexorable and inevitable distance).
So, my friends, this is how all went into crumbles’, as we say around here, where I live; it was when I saw and reviewed the spectacularity of his concert (the Paul McCartney) that I realised that I would never be able to see him... A friend of mine, who lives 4 blocks from where the concert was, told me that he couldn't attend because the tickets sold out in less than 5 minutes a year ago... But the sound coming from the River Stadium was so beautiful that he went up to the terrace of the flat where he rents, and just let himself be carried away by the sound that the wind was carrying. ‘Can't buy me love’, “Get Back”, “Back to the USSR”, “Yesterday”, “Fine Line”; some of the songs he heard, that I love to listen to but will not be able to enjoy (a live concert) for the reasons I have already explained. ‘A day in the life’ by this Mr. McCartney fan....
