Greetings @music-community @hive @music and fellow musicians and music lovers!
This is @danaidhbee singing to you from Scotland with an Old but quite well known Folk Song called “Hares on the mountain”.
Have you heard of it??
In last nights post for the Murder Ballad I performed I used a the same technique to what I’m using today by simply choosing a good drone-like setting on my keyboard then hold a chord with several octaves alternating at different rises and falls in the song, and then sing the melodies. It’s kind of like playing the pipe organ I guess.
Please feel free to reblog and share this to your followers :) share the love of Folk Music!🙏
Here is “Hares On The Mountain” covered by @danaidhbee for @hive @music
It seems to be really improving my singing when I sing this way on the keyboard. It allows me to really project my voice and breathe properly when I need to, with the guitar it is much different for me as the guitar is pressed against my chest and my hands do a lot of work making more movements which can make the voice unsteady at times.
🍀 { Lyrics } 🍀
“ Oh sally my dear it’s you I’ll be kissing,
Oh sally my dear it’s you I’ve been kissing,
Well she smiled and replied “you don’t know what you’re missing”.
Oh sally my dear I wish I could wed you,
Oh sally my dear I wish I could bed you,
Then she smiled and replied then you’d say I’ve misled you.
If all you young men were hares in the mountain,
If all you young men were hares on the mountain,
Then how many young girls would take guns and go hunting?
If the young men could sing like blackbirds and thrushes,
If the young men could sing like blackbirds and thrushes,
Then how many young girls will go beating the bushes?
If all you young men were fish in the water,
If all you young men were fish in the water,
Then how many young girls would undress and dive after?
But the young men are given to frisking and fooling,
But the young men are given to frisking and fooling,
So I’ll leave them alone and attend to my schooling.
Oh sally my dear, it’s you I’ll be kissing,
Oh sally my dear it’s you I’ve been kissing,
Then she smiled and replied you don’t know what you’re missing,
Oh sally my dear I wish I could wed you,
Oh sally my dear I wish I could wed you,
Then she smiled and replied and say I’d misled you.”
This is Radie Peat and Daragh Lunch’s version of the song. It is completely luxurious and relaxed yet haunting and all goose-pimpley how she sings this song with that rich and raspy Irish tone, just beautiful and very unique.
Here is another version that I believe Radie Peat used to inspire her own version, I also really like this one!
Let me know which one was your favourite 🙏😎👍
Thank you for listening. I hope you have a nice weekend :)
