If you don't know Joe Satriani but you like guitar then this post will hopefully be a great journey for you. I am going to link to a number of videos. I don't know if any of them will have lyrics but for the best Joe Satriani songs you truly do not need lyrics because his guitar is expressive enough you don't even need vocals.
Joe Satriani is not only an amazing guitarist he apparently is quite the good guitar instructor since numerous of his students have gone on to be quite amazing in their own right. This includes people like Steve Vai who is well known just for his solo projects, but is also Jack Butler in the movie Crossroads with Ralph Macchio. He was also in many different bands and is well known as one of the best overall guitarists out there. Then we have Kirk Hammett from Metallica and you can kind of hear when Kirk began working with Satriani in how Kirk's style shifts some. Then we can throw in Alex Skolnick from the band Testament and his stint in Transiberian Orchestra. We can also throw in Larry "Ler" LaLonde the guitarist from the band Primus. Larry's playing is so unique it might be difficult to see the influence of Satriani on him, but it is there...
Today I happened to see a comment that made my day in the comment section of a Joe Satriani "Crushing Day" video...
In case the image does not load I will quote Jack Sharkey here:
My neighbors likes this song so much they threw a brick through my window to hear it better.
That had me laughing and nodding. It also made me decide to write this post.
Consider the following some of the great songs...
Satch Boogie Live
Flying in a Blue Dream
Made of Tears
Revelation
The Forgotten (Part 1 & 2)
War
The Extremist (Official Video)
Lords of Karma
Surfing with the Alien
Driving at Night
Circles
Summer Song (Official Video)
The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing
Hordes of Locusts
Joe Satriani Live
What about some of his students?
Ler LaLonde of Primus
Alex Skolnick of Testament, Transiberian Orchestra, Jazz Trio, and Ozzy Osbourne
Kirk Hammett of Metallica
Steve Vai of very many things...
The song that wins the duel is actually performed by Steve Vai and composed by him he just faked not being able to do it... And NO Ralph Macchio did not play these parts.
