There is something that not many people really remember, and that is the importance of being the first. To be the one who defines a new way of doing something that simply didn't exist before you, or couldn't be done. Not only because it was the beginning of what we now see as everyday, which is the mass production of music videos, but also because in November of that year, we witnessed one of the best albums in history: "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. A work that was not only musical, but also cultural, artistic; even in choreography, dance, make-up, costumes, sound, acting, cinematography; and believe me, I'm not even close.... To fully understand the impact of this album is a complete challenge. Mainly because we live in an era where these things that were executed to perfection, for the first time, in the Thriller music video, are commonplace in our era.

Then you see Michael himself turn into a werewolf, in front of the girl he used to date on a horror date! You smile, because you love horror too. And finally you realise that it's a tremendously catchy song with a haunting bassline. Moreover, you feel spellbound by the synthesizer that accumulates gloomy notes within the composition of the song. Maybe, you yourself are not able to notice the whole sound, but you like it...

Do you realise this? How big this song is? My goodness! Just writing it down gives me unavoidable chills. This guy is a genius of the highest standard. What he, his band and his team of producers did is something we will never see again. And yes, I'm saying strong things. Not even the Beatles, moved or changed the structure of the music industry like the King of Pop did. No one has come as far as he has.

Much of what "Thriller" both as an album and as a song has generated since its release. It is a complete and unparalleled revolution. It transformed, dynamited, exploded all the precepts that existed and gave a cinematic narrative to what were previously videos with almost no production.

I've tried to find another artist who has awakened what Michael Jackson once awakened, and while there are good candidates, none were like him. Perhaps, this explains the deep wound that the death of this majestic and brilliant artist was for billions of people. A guy who bequeathed us a sound, a positivity towards life, the greatest natural talent I have ever seen; and above all a list of songs and hits that is as extensive as it is vibrant and unfading. You may or may not like pop, as a musical genre. You may or may not follow MJ's career, but you may or may not love Thriller.

Think about it, how can this be so? The explanation I can find is that during the production of this album (the single's namesake) Jackson sought out the best solo musicians on the market. The greatest and most successful arrangers, producers and worked tirelessly; in up to 16-hour days in the studio, to finally achieve this beautiful album, music video, and legacy. If there is someone who never left anything to chance, it was Michael Jackson. Someone who was never satisfied, who always wanted more and more. Not out of the vanity of being the best for the sake of being the best, but because he respected the music too much to settle for less. That's why we all love "Thriller" and nothing will ever top that fact.
Piénsalo bien, ¿cómo puede llegar esto a ser así? La explicación que yo le puedo encontrar, es que durante la producción de este disco ( homónimo al single) Jackson buscó a los mejores músicos solistas que estuvieran en el mercado. A los más grandes y exitosos arreglistas, productores y trabajó sin descanso; en jornadas de hasta 16 horas dentro del estudio, para finalmente lograr esta preciosidad de álbum, de vídeo musical, y de legado. Si hay alguien que jamás dejó al azar nada, ése fue Michael Jackson. Alguien que no se conformaba, que siempre quería más y más. No por la vanidad de ser el mejor por solo serlo, sino porque respetaba demasiado a la música para conformarse con menos. Por eso todos amamos a "Thriller" y nada superará ese hecho.
