Tres palabras
Osvaldo Farrés, nacido en Cuba el 13 de enero del 1902 y fallecido el 22 de diciembre del 1985 en EEUU, es el compositor de éste hermoso bolero. A pesar de no haber estudiado música ni tocar algún instrumento, compuso más de 300 boleros muy famosos, algunos de ellos son Acércate más, Quizás, quizás, quizás, Toda una vida, No, no y no, Madrecita, En el mar, pero el tema que lo dio a conocer fue Mis cinco hijos (Pedro, Pablo, Chucho, Jacinto y José) grabado a finales del 39.
A finales del año 1946, la cantante y actriz mexicana Chela Campos, mejor conocida como la Dama del bastón de cristal, le pidió que le compusiera un bolero. El cuento es el siguiente:
-Tengo que confiarle mi estimada señora, admitió Farrés con la modestia que le caracterizaba, que a veces no me llega la musa y tardo muchos meses para escribir una canción, además, le agradezco que no me llame maestro, porque no soy maestro de nada.
-No se me haga, por favor, señor Farrés, le contestó Chela algo sorprendida, y a manera de broma y quizás para ganarse la confianza del connotado escritor de dijo estoy segura que usted sólo con tres palabras puede componer un bolero.
La respuesta de la famosa cantante terminó siendo un gran compromiso y reto para el compositor, quien esa misma noche dio inicio al trabajo de composición inspirándose en la frase dicha por la Dama del bastón de cristal, "Tres palabras".
Al día siguiente le dio la noticia a Chela, sus "Tres palabras" ya era oficialmente una canción.
Osvaldo jamás imaginó el gran éxito que alcanzaría su bolero (como otros tantos), al ser interpretado tanto en inglés como en español.
Entre los muchos y afamados cantantes que grabaron sus canciones se encuentran Engelbert Humperdinck, Doris Day, Bing Crosby, Edith Piaf, Johnny Mathis, Charles Aznavour, Pedro Vargas, Toña La negra, Raphael, Javier Solís, Olga Guillot, Sara Montiel, Lucho Gatica, Eddie Gormé, Luis Miguel. Inclusive Walt Disney incluyó Tres palabras en su película Música maestro, cantada tanto en inglés como en español.

Osvaldo never imagined the great success his bolero (like so many others) would achieve, being performed in both English and Spanish.

"I never thought of becoming a composer. Neither songs nor music were part of my plans, much less had I imagined I could make a living from them".
