Hace poco le mandé a mi segundo hijo un escrito que hice sobre los 58 años del festival de música de Monterey, me agradeció la nota porque nunca había oído hablar de ese festival tan importante para el desarrollo del Rock.
Conversamos de varias cosas y en un momento de la conversación me dijo que podía contarme una historia que seguro me iba a gustar. Era de esos temas que forman parte de la historia secreta de los hijos y que los padres poco conocemos.
Estaría él comenzando el liceo, mediados de los años noventa, en ese entonces tenía un grupo de amigos con los que más tarde formaría varios grupos musicales.
Para aquel momento todos estaban aprendiendo a tocar los instrumentos. Más adelante, algunos como mi hijo se tomarían el asunto en serio y encontrarían en la música no solo una pasión para elevar su espíritu sino también un medio con el que ganarse la vida. Entre las travesuras que inventaban aquel grupo de adolescentes estaba jubilarse del liceo para irse cualquier día de la semana a la piscina del Hotel Maracay, un sitio muy bello al Norte de la ciudad y que cuenta con un inmenso campo de golf.
Antes de llegar al hotel los muchachos hacían una parada por el Burger King de la avenida las Delicias para buscar a otro amigo que trabajaba allí, era un poco mayor que ellos y siempre se las ingeniaba para regalarles una buena ración de hamburguesas, papas fritas y refrescos.
En una de esas tantas escapadas, en una soleada mañana maracayera, los muchachos se dieron cuenta que en un sector de la piscina estaba un señor en short, tomando un refresco, con una guitarra al lado, y la mirada perdida en la lejanía.
Al principio no lo reconocieron pero les llamó la atención lo de la guitarra. El más atrevido del grupo propuso que fueran a pedir la guitarra prestada para tocar un rato. Al acercarse, el muchacho del Burger King, los detuvo en seco, y con una gran cara de asombro les dijo algo que nunca olvidarían: ¡Chamo, ese como que es Juan Gabriel…!
El más osado se dirigió a la mesa y le preguntó:¿Señor, disculpe, usted es Juan Gabriel…? A lo que el famoso cantante, de la manera más natural, le respondió que sí y lo invitó a sentarse en la mesa, y no solo eso, sino que le hizo una seña a los otros que esperaban expectantes para que también se incorporaran. A partir de ese momento todo transcurrió como una gran reunión de amigos.
Juan Gabriel, la gran estrella de multitudes, en un gesto de gran generosidad y desapego, le prestó la guitarra a los muchachos, la misma con que seguramente habría compuesto más de una vez alguna línea famosa, con la que se acompañaba en sus momentos de intimidad, como ese día de la piscina del hotel Maracay.
Los muchachos apenas rasguñaban los acordes que sabían para acompañar una que otra canción de Green Day de las que estaban de moda, Juan Gabriel no las conocía y con paciencia les preguntaba cuáles eran los autores de lo que tocaban y cantaban.
