Hello Hive Music Lovers!,
Welcome to another #threetunetuesday created originally by @ablaze.
I like to share some music that I am listening to each week and this week we listen to 3 tunes about teardrops and also some interesting cover versions of those tunes.
But first, for those unfamiliar with TTT or Three Tune Tuesday.... to quote @ablaze :
The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize.
The first tune takes us back to a classic tune released in 1959 by Jackie Wilson. Probably Jackie should have his own #ttt post because he has some huge hits under his belt too.
The most famous one that I remember was used in Ghostbusters II called Higher and Higher., but the huge hit Reet Petite was also very popular.
Lonely Teardrops
The next tune is probably the first tune that comes to my mind when I think of teardrops. This groovy soul beat I can remember from when it was released, but probably in the wrong decade?
It was released in 1988 but probably has more of that 90s feel to it than the 80s vibe that we are used to. The more memorable cover version that I remember was from the group Lovestation who released their Garage cover version in the 90s.
This version was much faster and had that famous garage 2-step music beat dervied from the UK that everyone thought was poised to take over the world, but faded as quickly as it rose.
There is also a cover version on youtube by Milky Dance who have added their own unique spin to the song, but kept to the original essence of it.
Womack & Womack
On to the last song for today and probably the biggest Teardrop hit. This song is the singular teardrop but it is still a teardrop. This huge hit from the late 90s and released a few years after I had finished school was a huge hit.
Massive Attack produced some amazing tunes and I think this is one of their best too. At the time was the birth of the new electronic trip-hop sound and Massive Attack were part of that scene.
Teardrop
The bonus tune today is an awesome cover version of this song by José González which I absolutely love. It has such a great succint feel to it and a really well done cover version imo. I can't decide which I like listening to more, this version or the Massive Attack version.
I am not a fan of hospital dramas and have only caught episodes because of my wife. But this version has apparently featured in House MD, although I don't remember it myself, but I remember we have watched all of House MD (myself not voluntarily) and this song would fit into the typical storylines that these programmes produce I would imagine.
Dr House, he was some sort of super-brain if I remember and good at saving people. He is great playing this serious role, but I remember him more from some of his earlier comedic roles such as A Bit of Fry and Laurie and in Blackadder Goes Forth.
