Sometimes I make a tune where I'm not even sure what it is or how it came about.
This happens when I spend more time in the "dicking around with various synthesizers" stage when I open up my music software.
There's no real thought of "we're going to make a tune here", more just a case of seeing what I haven't used or come across in the vast expanse of FL Studio.
I guess the only thing that is relatively the same with each project is that the BPM is set to 174 BPM
And that's where today's share comes in called Distant Memory.
Distant Memory
Even though the project tempo is at 174BPM, this half time, "drumstep" track has the feeling of being 87BPM.
There are a couple of factors at play here for the tempo - the first being the snare hitting on the third of four bars, and the percussion being on half the bars as I would normally use for a dnb track.
In hindsight, I probably should have put the project tempo at 87BPM, it would have saved me a lot of trouble lol.
Anyway, with this track, the vibe is more of a mysterious one.
After messing around and finding a few synths, I found that haunting one you hear in the intro which set the tone really.
Then the creative ideas for a tune started flowing as I worked through the bassline sound effects and playing around with the drum beat.
The story then kinda comes with the production of the track and the name "Distant Memory" was born - I was thinking back to all the things that have happened in my life and this is how those distant memories sound when put into Drumstep haha.
