this is only the 2nd time ive gone out record shopping in the last 7 months... which is probably for the better-i don't exactly have lots of excess cash right now. so...what better way to spend cash you dont have than to buy dollar bin records that you don't need!
did come back with some cool finds so i thought i would share some of the more interesting ones:
JJ FAD
supersonic: the album
1988
this is co produced by dr dre and dj yella with arabian prince (all original NWA members) and is an early release on ruthless records-eazy e's label. supposedly this helped fund some of the other records, since it was a little more commercially accessible, say than... dopeman.
i have a few of their singles, but had never seen a full length by them, so i was rather excited to pick this one up for $3!
the video here is their biggest hit, supersonic
Gilbert Becaud
a l'olympia
1967
not gonna pretend like i know anything about this guy or had even heard of him before. hes an old French singer/musician/actor from the 50s and 60s who died almost 20 years ago, put out albums until 1999...46 year career, not too shabby!
the assembled multitude
self titled
1970
i had never heard of this band, but after listening i thought: "this is pretty funky for lounge covers". upon further digging, this was a studio band but many of the players went on to play in MFSB, a pretty famous funk soul group. no idea why they would have the tommy overture be so prominent--i guess it was a good way to sell the record. some cool beatles covers and others but, since im from ohio, here is the neil young cover...
dick hyman
scott joplin
1975
heres some great classic ragtime numbers by scott joplin, as performed by synthesizer legend /piano player, dick hyman. i might actually have a different record of these two, but ill have to look for it. i like to grab any hyman i can! ragtime is pretty happy music, always reminds me of some of those super mario world levels.
this one of course may challenge your notion of what "music" is...but theres definitely some noise here. this is a compilation of field recordings of various shuttle and rocket launches, pretty cool. i actually have the first volume in this series so thats pretty cool, just gotta find number 2!
Couldnt dig up a recording, so the next best thing was a link to one of the videos from the discovery launch, which was on the cd
thanks for checking this out and check out the hour mix radio show i did with all these records and the other stuff i picked up this week:
