Just thought id share a couple of records with some interesting cover versions of some songs
The Lennon Sisters
"Up, up and away/ sunny"
1967
Some "groovy" tracks from 1967, peak beehive hair fashion! Great versions of some songs that have been covered many times. The 5th dimensions song was new that year in 1967, but sunny is from 1963...i had to look it up because i only knew the amazing boney m version... and that definitely was from the 70s.
The original version of "sunny"was by bobby hebb, who im not familiar with-but i looked it up and the original song was pretty great-no wonder its been covered so many times
Now lets get a little more proggy and experimental with this WILD rendition of the song AMERICA from WEST SIDE STORY
The Nice
"America(second ammendment)"
1971
I would assume this is the most "out there" rendition of a west side story that exists. This is keith emersons band before emerson, lake and palmer.
I picked this up in the dollar bin many years ago and was always amazed by this version, complete with bass noise freakout and organ drones. This is one of my all time favorite cuts to play. There is a different version on one of the earlier albums, but this one is superior to it.
There is also a bob dylan cover on the record, but i'll let you decide whether you want to check that out or not..
I hope you liked these jams!
