The first Tuesday in the second half of the year. A fitting day to share some lovely tunes with you all.
Now I had some realizations when picking these 3 tunes, the olden days were really great when it comes to musical talent.
The likes of Madonna, Elvis Presley, Fela and plenty more
Maybe that would be my theme this month, old songs in different genres?
Maybe....
Regardless, since my bro @ablaze posted a tune by Nas, an old yet gold rapper last week, I decided that this week would be based on rap.
Here are some of my favorite old rap songs.
The Oldies but Goldies πΆ
Dance With The Devil ~ Immortal Technique
To be honest, I've actually written about this song, a long time ago here in this music community, in my early hive days
One thing to notice about the past rap songs, is that they actually had motif.
Every verse was meant to teach you something, and no song would teach you more about the price of going astray better than Dance With The Devil.
Telling us a story about William, a youngster who wanted to make his name on the streets, Immortal Technique tells us the savage and cold way the gang world works, the weight of what you have to lose to gain the supposed fame and well, I don't know about most of y'all... But I think it ain't worth it.
For some reason, the song was also a diss track to someone who I didn't have the strength to look forππ, the rhymes were perfect and the disses were top notchπ
Rewind ~ Nas
One of the most prominent figure in old school rap brought a new record in this song. (At least a record for me)
This song is simple Nas rapping about the life of a gangster who got a mission to off someone.
The story narrates his day, down to the point of shooting the nigga. With a nice beat, clear words and slick rhymes.
But here's the fun part. The whole story was told backwards.
Like a disc in rewind βͺπ¬
Brenda's Got a Baby ~ 2Pac
I feel this is the one song that doesn't need an introduction.
2Pac is common name in every black artist's book and his song "Brenda's Got a Baby" has to be one of his top 5 most popular songs.
It's simply the story of a girl who got pregnant for her cousin and wanted to get rid of the baby in a trash can.
Apparently from a true story, Tupac wrote and amplified what he thought persuaded her actions and how she may have felt after she had dropped the child.
It's an enlightening song, the true definition of old but gold π₯
Well that's it from me this week π
For my pals in America, happy June 4th and y'all have fun this last few hours of Tuesday..β¨
