Good day Hive, I'm so happy it's Tuesday!! To those not on hive, this is just a normal working day, not as bad as Monday but not as good as Friday, it's just a mid-day, or something like that.
For we Hiveans, Tuesday is the day we get together and share good music. The day we come and share 3 special tunes, and this day creatively dubbed Three Tunes Tuesday by @ablaze is my best day of the week.
The theme of the tunes I'll share today has been on my mind since last week; Rap, but there was a problem, rap has a lot of parts to it. There's story rap songs, intellectual rap songs, dissing tracks, sad raps(which I've already featured in one of my post on this week), which rap would I share. After a lot of thinking and ranking I decided to go with the type that has the most songs on my phone, Story Rap
Story Rap
As the name implies, this is a rap song where the rapper uses his verses to tell a story.
I just want to note that in contrast to my other posts where I explain the songs before I post the link, here I'll just put brief outlines of the song, so as to not spoil the story🤗.
Here are my 3 tunes from this type of Rap.
Wet Dreamz - Jcole
In this lyrical masterpiece, Cole tells us a story that takes us back to apparently his first time with a woman. Using lyrics, Jcole paints us a picture of a young teenager crushing hard on a girl and all the trips that comes with it. It is a real story rap although the video would be a bit misleading. I'm not sure if it's a real story or maybe it was just a wet dream😂.
When I'm Gone - Eminem
I'm so sure everyone knows this sad song. In this song Marshall tells us the story of how he was getting distracted from his family life due to his career and how it was affecting their life. He was able to come back though thanks to Hailey.
With his lines we see the picture of a broken home and a dad working hard maybe too hard to put food on the table while disregarding his roles as a father.
Sing about Me, I'm Dying of Thirst - Kendrick Lamar
In this 12 minute rollercoaster, we are put through the streets of Compton. This is actually a combination of 2 songs and the both of them was inspired by true happenings.
In the first song Sing about Me, Kendrick talks from 3 different perspectives;
- His friend who died in the streets of Compton from gang wars.
- The sister of Keisha; Keisha is the protagonist of one of his songs Keisha's Song it'll be in one of my later post's, maybe 😂
- His perspective after experiencing all this incidents.
The second song in this track, I'm Dying of Thirst is a redemption song. It was placed after his friend had been killed, he and his other friends had been running till they met an old woman, who introduced them to Christ.
I truly respect rappers for their ability to tell us the stories of their lives in such a fun way. Music tells stories, that's one thing I've come to realize. If you've read and watch to the ending you have my thanks♥️.
