I have been challenged by my friend @slobberchops to write about some music I love. The rules are:
- Tell me about an album you love and tell me about the standout album track on it.
- Don’t tell me about any singles on your album. I want to hear about that hidden gem that is tucked away and not played on the radio.
- Give me a story about the album, how you learned about it, and most importantly highlight that special album track
- Challenge THREE more people to do the same. It’s good to write, especially about music. It’s a passion.
- Make sure you add these rules to your post and feel free to use the format I use below.
- Post your Music Challenge article in the MUSIC Community
- If you want to write a post and have not been challenged, then do so.
- Prefix your post 'Writing Music Challenge' so it's easy to spot.
The Album
The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking by Roger Waters
The cover design is by Gerald Scarfe who worked on The Wall and other projects by Pink Floyd.
This album was conceived when Waters was still in Pink Floyd and could have been recorded by them, but they did The Wall instead. That album was something I really got into during my student days and I wanted more of it. The Roger Waters solo effort seemed like it offered that. As a bonus it featured Eric Clapton who was one of my favourite guitarists back then.
The album features the dreams of a man going through his mid-life crisis with episodes in Germany. The tracks have times for when he dreamed them.
I think only the title track, but the standout song for me is 4:41AM (Sexual Revolution) which features some of the best playing by Clapton in my opinion. The song is unusual for rock in being in 3/4 time. Waters gives it his usual passion with Clapton riffing between the lines. Half way through it goes quite with sounds of a storm and the solo begins, building in tensity with a classic Stratocaster sound. The whole thing is epic, but I suggest hearing in context with the rest of the album as the tracks do flow together.
I challenge @detlev, @gtown and @uwelang to do their own post in this vein.
Rock on!
