Hello music lovers and Hello hivers!
It's Tuesday, and you know what that means – time to share some tunes for the brilliant #threetunetuesday initiative started by @ablaze!
This week we are hearing from a quite wonderful and fluffing unique English lady who I had a huge crush on as a kid.
Kate Bush has released 10 studio albums. She also had 2 live albums and 2 compilation albums and she is fluffing awesome.
The Utterly Unique Kate Bush
It is Tuesday and that of course means that it's #ttt or #threetunetuesday and so it's time to share some tunes with you!
@ablaze started #ttt 210 weeks ago! Go check out what it is all about on his last post Four Years of Three Tune Tuesday - Week 209 - win 6 HBI
Do go support @ablaze as without him we would not have this mental fun musical activity that you can win HSBI from! I am happy to be one of the SIX sponsors and it is kinda fun checking out music from all over this global village of ours!
Long live #ttt 😁🎼 and #threetunetuesday
Where to start!
Well I was doing one of the exercise machines at the gym last night, when on popped Babooshka onto my spotify. Immediately I thought yep time for some Kate Bush.
She is a pretty unique package I think. She has a wonderful voice with a heck of a range, was very theatrical.
She would tell you stories in her songs and she was a songwriter too.
Have a listen and I am sure you will be singing along with some of them!
Unfortunately I have never seen her live, probably because I only think she toured once and was never a festival performer.
So today we have three tunes from Kate Bush!
Tune 1 ~ Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights was released as a single on January 20th 1978. It was actually her debut tune!
It topped the UK charts for 4 weeks and what a way to announce yourself to the world!
The album it was taken from: The Kick Inside was released three weeks later on February 17th 1978.
I know one of you is an avid reader of classic authors. So @nancybriti1 I should find a spanish cover but this was inspired by Emily Brontë's novel "Wuthering Heights".
It shows off Kate's vocal range and theatrics on stage!
It is one of her most iconic songs and a brilliant debut song I think!
Tune 2 ~ Kate Bush - Babooshka
Next up let’s jump forward a couple of years to 1980 and a tune from the album Never for Ever
This one holds a special place for me – Babooshka is the song I mentioned I heard last night and is my absolute favourite Kate Bush song!
Not only is it catchy, and defy you not to say Babooshka but it's shows her storyteling skills as it’s a mini-melodrama condensed into four minutes.
It tells the story of a wife testing her husband's loyalty with a disguise lol.
I also love the Fairlight CMI (that glass-smashing sound!).
Tune 3 ~ Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)
The original was released in 1985.
But it might be familiar to some of you youngsters as ...
"Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush found a massive new audience primarily due to its prominent feature in the fourth season of the popular Netflix series Stranger Things, which was released in 2022.
It is great that she was put back in the spotlight...
Following its inclusion in Stranger Things, the song experienced a dramatic resurgence in popularity:
It topped charts worldwide, including reaching number one in the UK and hitting the top 5 in the US Billboard Hot 100, decades after its original release.
It became a viral sensation on social media platforms like TikTok.
Streaming numbers for the song surged dramatically across various music platforms.
Thank you gemini for those titbits!
So there you have it – three tunes from Kate Bush
Which was your favourite Kate Bush tune or was it one of the many others that could have been chosen? Or have you never heard of them?!?
