Hello. If you have been following my articles from the beginning, you may realize two basic facts: despite working in the industry for six years, I only released my first piece four years ago. That's two years of difference! If you have already tried to start creating your own tracks in more advanced programs like Ableton, Reaper or FL Studio (which will be discussed in further articles) you are most likely aware of the reason for this time difference. Namely, these programs are not easy to learn. In the coming texts, we will just touch on the topic of learning one such program. But let's start with how we should think about our own production.
Don't lock yourself into someone else's framework
This is one of the most common problems. Watching videos and tutorials on how to use the program in addition to learning the basics of the program, we equally begin to acquire a template thinking according to the manufacturer we are following. This is very unhealthy and restricts our own creative process. When choosing such a form of learning, focus on the very actions performed by the person being watched, rather than on the effect of his work. Don't look at the choice of instrument notes or chords and give yourself time to discover new sounds. This will give listeners the impression that what you are creating is something new and original and will encourage them to listen.
No one needs to hear what you are doing.
In today's world, where social media and the Internet dominate our lives, it is easy to fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others and fearing judgment. In such a situation, perhaps this is the time to let go of this pressure and allow yourself to develop in peace? Maybe hiding your work in a drawer is what will give you the peace of mind to explore new interests and work on your skills. Avoiding showing our work to others can give us creative independence. If we are working on a project we are most often anxious to show our own train of thought in it, and this may be what will give you originality in what you do. Treat the opinion of others as a source of motivation.
We should not feel pressure from the opinions of others. Let's remember that creativity is a science of continuous development, and this takes time. However, it is important to remember that this does not mean to become desensitized to the opinions of others, but simply to look at them more forgivingly. Criticism, while often associated with negative emotions, can also be a powerful source of motivation. Receiving constructive criticism from others can help us see our weaknesses and areas for improvement. By accepting these comments with an open mind and an attitude of willingness to grow, we can direct our efforts to improve our skills. Criticism can give us new perspectives, inspire us to seek innovative solutions and prompt us to take on challenges.
