๐ Introduction
Hello minimalists, my name is Juan. I haven't expressed myself on Hive for a long time, and I must admit that this initiative has caught my attention. I hope to be there in time to participate. Thank you for this opportunity to write. When asked which possessions I feel most attached to and why, I made this top ten of my beloved, indispensable objects of affection.
1. Taurus Bass ๐ธ
This incredible musical instrument came to my home two years ago, and I truly can't live a life without it. I recently changed its strings, and now I'm trying to get a new sound thanks to an amp and a distortion pedal that I added to the setup.
It's one of the instruments I've enjoyed playing the most in my entire life, and even though I'm still learning, I consider it will be with me for many years to come. I believe we should all play at least one instrument and have a companion in our space for moments of silence and reflection. I feel that music is my way of meditating, and my home should never be without musical instruments.
My Goal This Year: Play in a band!
2. Mood board ๐ฒ
I consider it essential to have a physical medium on which to write, express, draw, connect with arrows, and visualize the tasks I have left to complete for the month and year, in order to stay organized and be able to express my ideas.
For this reason, I consider it essential in my life to have a fixed corkboard on the wall where I can hang announcements, posters, drawings, and ideas that come to me. This is very convenient so I don't have papers scattered all over the space. Having them together and being able to see them at a glance is both very practical and indispensable in my minimalist way of organizing my home.
4. Incense
I like to complement the library with incense burners for offerings. My favorite fragrance is palo santo, and its mere presence adds fragrance to the space.
5. Small Library
A small library is another thing I couldn't be without among my possessions. I believe that knowledge never takes up space, so having a good library is essential for everyone.
On days when I want to stay unplugged, I easily have reference and audiovisual material so I can learn, stay informed, and stay entertained, even if the power goes out.
I believe a library is essential, not just decorative, because books can be arranged in very creative ways alongside plants and other objects to create an interesting aesthetic. It's a very small space in my case (my library doesn't take up more than a meter), but it's one of the places I visit most and observe most throughout my day.
7. I Ching
It's a book of wisdom, an oracle, a permanent reference material for asking questions about all kinds of moments of uncertainty. I consider it a key tool in my spiritual development. I love asking questions to Iching, and all the wisdom she has offered me over the years has always proven to be truly, trustworthy, and absolutely certain. I highly recommend researching this book, which has been around for thousands of years and offers a natural way to flow, without rushing the pace of things. A way to observe ourselves with wisdom.
3. Fountain Pen
It's very fun for the hand to express itself through different strokes, and I've found that using sketchbooks and fountain pens gives me a result I like. On a deeper level, I feel I can engage in a more engaged level of reflection about my tasks and daily activities.
6. Sketchbook
I think they take up very little space and are a minimalist way to carry the essentials with me to organize my day, from writing a song, jotting down a momentous event, planning a trip, analyzing astrological phenomena, or simply doodling.
8. Sound system
A good system for playing music. A good sound system is essential in my home to be able to set the mood and create atmospheres at all times. I am a person who really enjoys high-quality audio, and I think this system justifies it because it plays music at a volume and fidelity far superior to what I can hear on my computer speakers.
A step in the future would be to buy speakers of that quality to have on my PC, but eventually, this system, which my uncle gave me and is over 20 years old, still works perfectly and is one of the objects I most enjoy using because of all the retro technologies it has and the vinyl records my family has given me. I listen to them every now and then, and they bring me great joy.
9. Music Records
A good collection doesn't take up that much space... and who knows if we'll ever lose internet access?
10. AND PLANTS!
And of course plants. I'm a total nature fanatic and I like natural greenery to take over my spaces. In every corner, a plant is climbing up a frame. In the corners, little trees are growing and bearing fruit, both inside and outside the house. In my patio or in the garden, there will always be many pots with small aromatic, medicinal, fruit-bearing, or simply ornamental plants.
They purify the air, don't really take up space, and give life just by existing. Of all the things I own, they are my dearest friends and are the only true indispensable things in life.
