I used to wear shorts even when I was younger but when an accident happened to me, I learned to love maxi dresses and long skirts just to cover my left leg back when they started to become smaller than the other leg. Perhaps I loved this wear and made me comfortable wherever I went along with my favorite pink or gold slippers.
Time may have wings and it seemed it all happened yesterday. I remember it was two years ago since an accident happened that changed my life with a doctor's diagnosis, the Medial Cuneiform Fracture.
Even if it happened years back then, still every day I feel the pain. I need a massage whenever I feel the ache just like now.
It was hard for me to handle the pain since I could not move the way I wanted and the worst, I was bedridden and could not even walk. When it happened, I did not go directly to the hospital because I had a fear of any form of medical operation.
After the accident had happened, soothing elements such as rest, ice, compress, and elevation were applied being a first aid treatment. At first, I only thought that I only got sprained. I had a massage therapist and even a quack doctor thinking it would only relieve quickly.
Walking down memory lane, I was just bearing the extreme, unbearable pain from within for I was so afraid to go to the Doctor. A week before that accident, my schoolmate way back in high school also had a fracture, the same as mine, and she had undergone an operation. I was really afraid that I would take her path in the same way, so I just chose to have a home remedy that I would be healed quickly.
I did not know that I was not only having a sprain but a fracture. Accidents usually happen in just a blink of time. Some misfortunes are even unexplainable but it all happens for a purpose. Every so often, it paves a room for lessons and realizations. More than a month has passed since I drowned myself in an ocean of tears due to an unexpected accident that changed my life forever with a doctor's diagnosis which is a medial cuneiform fracture.
I can still remember the conversations with Doctor Khu. His voice was so loud and quite angry while saying, “It is too late!”.
The time came that I decided to go to the hospital because I could already walk by myself alone, and just to make sure, I would have to undergo examinations just to double-check what had happened to me. I was referred to the emergency room. A series of X-rays were done on my left leg. Twenty minutes later, I was directed to Doctor Khu, an orthopedic surgery specialist for fractures, arthritis, low back pain, scoliosis, sports injuries, and children orthopedics, and entered his clinic with a dialogue.
When I entered his clinic, he was already seeing the x-ray results. He asked me when it happened and I answered him that it was already one month ago because I decided to have a home remedy and take several medications. But he was feeling angry with me while saying that it was too late and he could do nothing about what had happened.
Doctor Khu showed me the results on the screen, and I saw the signs of a crack on my medial cuneiform. My tears fell in front of him while feeling worried. Seeing me crying, he explained to me gently that previously I had a cracked bone at the medial cuneiform.
He then added that I was lucky because my bones healed on their own and were not dislocated so he had given me take-home medications. Indeed, it was a miracle. He said that good thing I was still young so there was a natural healing process.
Since I was young, I had never experienced being in an operating room due to an accident. But in the blink of time, an accident knocked on my door. Never did I think that it would happen to me.
Remembering those days back then when I soaked myself in tears, I could still feel the agony that I had been experiencing but nobody ever knew that I was struggling with my health condition, I remained resilient.
Perhaps the accident taught me some lessons in life in a difficult way and even made me realize many things like having a very uncertain life so I need to adapt to it. There may be thousands of reasons to weep but there will always be billions of reasons to move on and keep going. And that, life could be a fracture, however, there would always be moments to heal.
Everything happens for a reason so it would always be significant to seize every moment. It was like learning lessons the hardest way. I have a lot of realizations that I will never know how strong I am until I experience the toughest moment that could probably change my life forever.
And I am happy that my legs get back to normal at present, I can wear shorts and casual wears, although I am feeling the aches. What matters to me is the healing process and how I felt fine after the accident.
