Today I've been tidying out the bus. It's essentially been a storage unit for two years, lacking the charm and beauty it used to have as a 'guest bus'. As we just yesterday signed with an agent, we wanted to make it look as if it was a viable bit of space for guests or teenagers. People are into tiny homes these days - a bus in the garden is no longer a bit of junk.
A lot of it was shuffling the shit in plastic boxes - camping gear, books to the op shop, my mushroom growing kit, brewing supplies and so on. Some got taken to the op shop, and some went on Marketplace.
The place we want to put an offer in is tiny, so it'll be both good storage solutions and a lot more minimalism. I've said here before that minimalism is a constant process. One of our tricks is to 'put it in the bus' and if we don't use it within a year, well, we need to assess whether we'll use it at all.
Booklovers will cry to find out we've got rid of hundreds of books. I don't see the point of keeping them if we never read them. I haven't got rid of some of the collections, like Zola, Murakami and Richard Flanagan, and have kept a lot of our resource books, but I've even been chucking my yoga books. I know all that shit now, why keep it? And it'll make someone else happy - I hope. We've already sold Beekeeping for Dummies and a few other books but they move slowly as no one reads these days. Everything is on the internet. God help us if it all goes down.
Honestly, if I had a job organising people's shit, I'd be happy. Both Jamie and I love the process.
I made $200 off some indigneous art, and another $50 for a vintage mirror. I've earnt more selling this week than I have for my one day of work. Thing is, the more minimalist you get, the less you have to sell. But then money becomes less important.
We are downsizing a lot - the block will be 600 m2, though the house is small - there's a shed on it and tons of room for a garden. Though it seems less in size, and quality, it's more in terms of where we want to be - somewhere we feel less isolated, and closer to the ocean.
Anyway, the bus is looking tidy, I've chucked, sold and op shopped a heap of stuff, and now I have to get off Hive, and Discord (where @holozr keeps luring me - I really must delete that app so I can minimalise my time online whilst I sort my life out) and go get some bales of straw so I can make the garden look pretty.
With Love,
