The blame doesn’t exactly fall on any one person. With major countries having a capitalist economy, the concept of maximalism is encouraged. People crave to own things, to enrich their possessions, and to add to their inventory. Dare I say, it even adds to our self confidence and esteem?
The more we have, the better we feel, and then the more we crave to have. It’s like a never ending vicious cycle of wanting more and more.

But still, in the same vein, there are minimalists who reason on the opposite end of the scale. They do not see a sane reason to acquire objects, nor do they purchase items for the sole purpose of needing to satisfy a craving.
In fact, their craving manifests in the form of reducing clutter and maintaining a clear living space that reflects their mind. After all, one's personal environment is merely a projection of what goes on inside.
It is quite crucial that, every once in a while, we find our way back to a clear mind and environment. And five simple to follow rules that could help with this are;
Be Thankful: This is the most vital step to combating hoarding because it cancels out the root cause that makes us want more in the first place. When we cultivate the habit of gratitude, we learn to be appreciative of the things that we do have.
It places a whole new perspective on things. It makes us realize that buying more things is not the solution. Rather, being thankful gives us the contentment that we so desire. Therefore, we should regularly reflect on the aspects of our present lives that we are grateful for.
Identify your Principles: It is important that we identify the aspects of our lives that truly matter to our personal growth and development. This pertains to our relationships, possessions, and experiences.
Seeking these out will make it easier for us to know where to channel our energy, efforts, and love. Doing this will give us a purpose in life, such that we are no longer interested in investing in trivial things.
Be intentional: Having identified our values and principles, we can then acquire items or materials that align with them. For example, it is more meaningful to buy a diary book for a friend as a gift when you know that she is into books and will make the most use of it.
It beats buying a book just because you like the design on it, even though you know that it will probably just sit on your shelf and collect dust.

Always Declutter: Always Decluttering is a great way to boost your mind and soul. Living in a congested space can have negative effects on our mind and, consequently, our body. In order to avoid this, it is crucial to clean our living environment and ensure that it is clean and functional at all times.
Assess your environment and let go of items that don’t serve you any purpose. One thing that helps me declutter my wardrobe is that if I haven’t worn a garment in more than three months, I usually throw it out, except for seasonal clothes.
Optimize Your Finances: Simplifying your finances ties it all together. Be very mindful of the way you spend, the things you spend on, and how often you spend. It is important to reduce your expenses to meet our needs.
This points us towards a more minimalist life.
