Old Havana is his "center of operations", if you spend 5 minutes in the Plaza de la Catedral or in areas near La Bodeguita del Medio he will almost certainly appear there, his beard, his way of dressing and his inseparable Habano are unparalleled, it is easy to recognize him in the middle of the crowd, but let's start this story at the beginning.In the nineties, this Cuban music and dance lover participated in a contest in a television program where they were looking for an imitator of Pedrito Calvo, singer and lead voice for many years in the orchestra Los Van Van, his resemblance to the singer assured him the first prize, but this would not be the reason that brought him to the top 10 of the most famous faces of Havana.In that same decade, the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana launches a project which consisted in characterizing figures or characters, Ermenegildo or Wilkie as everyone calls him, is presented for the job and is accepted. In 2009 the prestigious National Geographic magazine placed on one of its covers the face of this gentleman who later became famous and requested by thousands of visitors who every year take a picture with him, I always pay tribute to his image and good charisma and to National Geographic for the "push" to fame.
La Habana Vieja es su "centro de operaciones".Si permaneces 5 minutos en la Plaza de la Catedral o en áreas cercana a La Bodeguita del Medio es casi seguro que allí aparezca.Su barba ,su manera de vestir y su inseparable Habano no tienen comparación,es fácil reconocerlo en medio de la multitud.Pero vamos a comenzar esta historia por el inicio.En los años noventa,este cubano amante de la música y el baile,participó en un concurso en un programa de televisión donde se buscaba un imitador de Pedrito Calvo, cantante y voz líder por muchos años en la orquesta Los Van Van,su parecido al cantante le aseguro el primer premio,pero no sería este el motivo que lo trajera al top 10 de los rostros más famosos de La Habana.En esa misma década,La Oficina Del Historiador de la Ciudad de La Habana lanza un proyecto el cuál consistía en caracterizar a figuras o personajes costumbristas ,Ermenegildo o Wilkie como le llaman todos ,se presenta para el trabajo y es aceptado. En el 2009 la prestigiosa revista National Geographic coloca en una de sus portadas el rostro de este señor que posteriormente se hiciera famoso y requerido por miles de visitantes que cada año se hacen una foto con él.Yo siempre que puedo le hago homenaje a su imagen y buen carisma y a National Geographic por el "empujón" a la fama.
