In the past 5 years British Columbia, Canada has had 3 of the worst wildfire seasons on record.
Coldwater Fire
The 2021 wildfire is the third worst. The season really took off after BC was locked in the Heat Dome. Places that commonly see temperatures reach the lower 40’s C were now seeing daily temperature records fall day after day.
Finally, Lytton BC reached a scorching temperature of 49.6 degrees C.
Tremont Creek Fire
The following day a wildfire was sparked on the edge of the community and within minutes the entire community was destroyed by fire. This was one of many Fires of Note in the Kamloops Fire Center this summer and the start of 6 weeks of mass evacuations, rank 6 interface fires, destroyed towns, choking smoke and there was also a lot of talk about a future with increasing risk of wildfires and how human caused climate change is driving these fires into mega fires.
Retardant Drop on Mt Peter Ridge Fire
My name is Dave and I live in Kamloops, BC and I like to photograph nature. This year this city of 90,000 was the epicentre of the wildfires. Normally each summer I am in the mountains backpacking but with the fires literally on the outskirt of the city I turned my attention to them instead.

Rank 6 fire behavior
I collected a lot of footage over the past few summers and am still processing it. Much was captured in harsh conditions and has been a challenge to edit. As I have new images and stories of our progressively worse fire seasons I will be introducing them.
