Danube, Apatin, Subotica (Photo Story)
Every few years i organize a trip to the north of my country. Friend of mine moved to Vancouver and last 4 years he is sticking to a schedule of getting home every 2 years for a month or two. So that is what i use as an excuse to make time for a trip.
I was just checking and it's been 4 years from my last visit (it is recorded on Hive, so it is easy to check). 2 years ago we went to Greece together so i didn't make the up north trip.
This year he came a bit later, it was end of October. And it would be a great time to visit as fall at this place is beautiful. But i had some work, we wanted to go to Subotica and visit some friends, but there were some new baby's born, covid and stuff. So in the end the date came to late November.
And it was raining days before. And leaves were all on the ground. And mud was everywhere. Not that it made it less fun, just it was less photogenic. This place is called Harčaš. No idea what it means, nor why the name :). It is part of the old flow of the Danube. You can probably see that there is a bit of drought, water should be up to the trees.
Random mushroom. I liked the colors.
Next stop, Vagoni. Vagoni (wagons, no idea why, again) is a weekend resort some 7-8 km from Apatin. there are 50-60 cottages build on the bank of Danube. When the weather is nice it is a pretty lively place.
The theme of drought continues. All those boats should be on the water. And i could bet that it is not their fault, i am sure they did not walk away from the water.
Sandy/muddy beach and Danube.
This channel is connecting Danube and that muddy place with lack of water. Danube is low so no water is getting there.
Someone is going for a ride.
Water often gets to those cottages. Sometimes even floods the first floors.
Sand island in the middle of the Danube. Most of the times you should not see that. This place is really close to Liberland. I always forget that i would like to visit Liberland.
View from the public beach.
And we magically arrived to Subotica. Accually it was an 80 Km drive with road that is renovated with some weird detours.
I had to take a photo of this because it is funny to me. I know it is probably "normal" everywhere to do the "Grand Opening" but from what i seen it was postponed for a month, it feels like a politics play :)
Subotica center promenade.
Subotica City hall
City theatre. Still not finished with reconstruction. They started on my last year of living there (was in collage in Subotica) and it is still not working. I have to say, more then few years passed :)
Not a lot changed, but they few of these statues around the center.
From the hip snapshot of friends we were visiting :)
This park does look nice and i must say they invested a bit :)
Weird ant sculpture that i learned is used as an empty battery disposal. 🤷♂
