Living, until recently, in a temperate continental climate and being a nature lover, I am obviously also a flower lover. Flowers are the easiest way to have nature as close as possible, in the yard, garden, and even in the house!
The phrase used above, "until recently " does not suggest that I have moved to another place, with another climate, but something else entirely, much more spectacular and unexpected for me...
The climate has changed.
I find it incredible that I have been able to observe this in my lifetime because climate change has happened over very long periods of time.
But now it seems that everything is happening much faster in our lives. In this case, it is global warming that is to blame. A phenomenon that I believe is observed by all people, except some who do not want to or cannot see the world with their own eyes and discernment and then allow themselves to be led and influenced by all sorts of fanciful and, of course, conspiracy theories!
Well, in the part of the world where I live, in southern Romania, to the north is the Carpathian mountains and to the south the Danube River, the temperate continental climate has changed to a Mediterranean climate! So announced by some climate forum. In my opinion, it is not yet a Mediterranean climate, it is the old climate with more and more obvious Mediterranean influences.
Why did I mention this climate change?
Because I consider the Mediterranean climate the best, I mean I like it the best. The problem is... because, of course, there is a problem here, the Mediterranean climate is the best when the Mediterranean Sea is nearby, which is not the case for me and the city where I live, Bucharest.
However, these Mediterranean influences have helped me to grow some specifically Mediterranean plants and flowers in my yard, such as oleander, laurel, pomegranate, plumbago and... passion flower.
I can say that I have developed a passion for passionflowers! For a few years now I've been trying to grow this climbing plant but I haven't been able to get through the winter with it. But this year I had the joy of succeeding. The first passion flower has bloomed! That and this flower is what this post was for. Thank you!
Passiflora 'Constance Elliot'
Passiflora 'Constance Elliot' is a delightful climber, bearing unusual white flowers, rather than the typical purple blooms associated with Passiflora caerula. As with other passion flowers, it has dark, glossy lobed leaves and bears egg-shaped, orange fruit in late-summer. Fast-growing, it’s a great choice for covering a south- or west-facing wall, and is easy to maintain. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit. Source
On the occasion of writing this post I found out that my flower is called Constance Elliot and is much appreciated in the UK!
