Jaisalmer is a distant Indian hamlet with its famous and magnificent golden fort aka simply Jaisalmer fort. My first visit here was in 2012 during a camel fair in Pushkar. Back then I had promised to take my wife there and thus a second trip was due for a decade.
We stayed in the fascinating hotel by the name Killa Bhawan
which means "house on the fort". True to its name, the fort is indeed on the fort walls.
The fort, with its sand stone construction turns golden when slanting sun rays hits it during sun rise or sun set.
Here are few photos our daughter on the fort walls:
As she walks into the area which is now converted into a sitting area. Looks like a terrace but this could have been where the armed guards stood peering at the uphill path leading up to one of the many gates of the fort.
An area converted as a place to sit. Behind her on the left side is the Palace within the fort where the Maharaja dwelled.
The common words associated with the fort is opium, silk route, Afghanistan etc. Looks like this was an important ancient trade route.
Another landing within the fort walls which is now quite tastefully decorated :
The fort is definitely worth the visit and stays on the fort walls are highly recommended.
When are you visiting Jaisalmer ?
