A few years back, the bestie up and left me, traded in the city life for one on the farm. They packed up and moved out to a place in rural southeastern Ohio, earlier this week I finally managed to make it out there to pay a visit.
We'd gotten together in Louisville since they moved away, but this was my first time braving the Ohio cops to hang out. (In Kentucky, nobody drives the speed limit. In Ohio, just about everybody does, and the cops are still way busier pulling people over.) The weather was a hair on the scorching side, so we just hung out, crafted, and generally mucked about.
There was a cat or two or thirteen to keep us entertained as well. Anyone want a kitten? Wasn't just felines either. If I recall correctly, the place had been an alpaca farm in the past, but the bestie and their partner were raising chickens, sheep, geese, and rabbits.
Even on lazy days there's still chores at Rooks Hollow Farm. Best not be late with supper or else you're in for a fowl reception.
Did get a bit of a break from the heat one afternoon, took advantage of that to wander about a bit.
Was a lovely little place with lots of wildflowers and butterflies, and only a moderate amount of poison ivy to keep you on your toes.
We did have to tear ourselves away from all this for a quick trip to the Amish store for donuts, sandwiches, and popcorn.
Part of the fun of a farm is that you can never stay gone too long. These sheep don't give you any wool but they are good eating apparently.
Who doesn't need a gosling or two in their life? My time on the farm passed far too quickly, but for my last evening there us and the goslings sat outside and watched the sun set behind the hills.
Was a rather pleasant downshift to a slower pace of life. Going to have to get back out that way again once the weather is a little more forgiving.
