Check out these photos I shot of legendary skateboarder, Tony Hawk.
These photos come with a pretty cool story, too!
My friend Joe and I were having our usual Friday morning skate session when, all of a sudden, in walks the most famous skateboarder in the world, Tony Hawk.
Tony Hawk is known for being one of the most popular skaters in the world, and also has one of the most popular skateboard video game franchises in the world, the Tony Hawk Pro Skater video games series.
Tony walked in with a couple of photographers and we were wondering what they were shooting photos for.
I asked one of the photographers, but he said: "We can't say - sorry..."
A little later, he told me: "You'll find out in a few months..."
But then it hit me... We are actually skating a pool with THE Tony Hawk!
If you're not familiar with pool skating, the skaters basically take turns at skating the pool.
So my friend Joe would skate the pool and then Tony would skate it and then I would skate it - it was amazing! (and kinda surreal!)
After a short time, I decided I should get some photos, so here are those photos.
Here's Tony's good friend, Kevin Staab, famous '80s pro skater doing a huge air:
My original photos included the added context of famous skateboard photographer, J. Grant Brittain shooting Tony.
(I cropped some of these so you could see the action shots better)
A few months later, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 video game was released and that's when I discovered the cover shot - THAT's what they had been shooting that morning!
After the session, my friend Joe and I went out for fish tacos and just savored the moment - we got to skate a pool with Tony Hawk!
Pretty amazing. :)
That's Joe on the left and me on the right.
