The great migration of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope across the plains of east Africa has been described as one of nature's greatest spectacles. The giant mass of animals completes a large circle every year, culminating in a mad stampede across a crocodile infested river. The lure of fresh green fields in Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve drives their instinct to make the perilous journey. If you time it just right, and get very, very luck you can be there to witness the crossing. And it looks something like this..
If hungry crocodiles aren't scary enough, you also have to worry about getting trampled by your neighbor.
And just getting down the fifty foot riverbank can be a scary proposition. These wildebeest launched themselves down a few seconds later.
The scene goes from zero to a hundred as soon as the first few wildebeest go over the edge and start crossing. Soon thousands follow.
Afterwards, the surviving wildebeest and zebra mull about, dry off, and head off into the African savanna.
Thanks for joining me on this wild natural experience.
