Last night I noticed the weather forecast was showing as being misty. I've been planning a trip to Salford Quays in Manchester for a while and the forecast was all the excuse I needed. I've been a few times before but never in misty conditions and I was keen to take advantage of the potentially cinematic scenery.
Salford Quays in Manchester is a redeveloped industrial area where ships were once docked loading cargo to be taken along the Manchester Ship Canal off to Liverpool 30 or so miles away. Sometime in the 1970's or 80's the docks ended up in a state of ruin and was eventually bought by a redevelopment organisation. Salford Quays is now home to the BBC's Media City and is surrounded by impressive modern architect including the Lowry Theatre.
After dark, the Quays is an impressive place to look at and in the mist, even better! This is a post with images shot last night.
Bladerunner Vibe
I've been a fan of the cinematography in the film, Bladerunner and the sequel, Bladerunner 2049. The colours and the lights in a slightly disturbing future world we are destined to live in have been an inspiration in more than one of my photos. Some of the scenes in Bladerunner have strangers in the night ambling by and this shot reminded me.
The IWM North
The Imperial War Museum North last night was barely visible only a short distance away. I had to wait 10 minutes to shoot this while a couple of Senegalese ladies shot selfies on the bridge. ( I assume they were from Senegal because they spoke French and were very well dressed).
This is a 10 shot focus stack to get everything in focus from front to back.
Terminus
I've shot this tram station in Salford Quays before but never in such epic foggy conditions.
With it being the day after Christmas Day, I had to wait for a little longer than usual for a tram to arrive. I would have stuck around to capture more versions of tram trails but the digital signs said 23 minutes and life was too short to wait that long!
Media in the Mist
This is the BBC's Media City as I've never seen it before. I would have Photoshopped the detritus from the water but I left it in to show the contrast between clean, bright modern and the dirt and grime not too far away.
What a difference
This is a shot I have taken in very different conditions. The contrast in the next two images amazes me and reminds me I should revisit places in different light.

I've been looking at minimalism lately and last night I gave it another go. Still not sure about these.....
