On a trip to the Dolomites in South Tyrol last year, we had only one evening free to go to a specific location I had scouted before - a little pond where mountains are reflected. We were skeptical about the weather forecast, but we decided to go anyway because, as they say, you never know what can happen. And as I said, it fitted only this evening to our schedule anyway. As it turns out, we were in for a treat.
Starting at the parking with a clear sky, we soon encountered some fog that got thicker and thicker getting closer to the pond.
When reaching it, there was not really anything to be seen. But knowing that the fog just formed on our way, I guessed that I could still have a chance with the drone. And yes, I did.
And it still got better: the fog cleared up for a brief moment on the ground, allowing me to snap a few shots of the mountains in all their glory reflecting in the pond.
Funnily, we met another photographer on our way up. He had given up and was on his way back down. When he saw that it had cleared up, he turned back to the pond, only to miss the best conditions. Sometimes, I guess you just have to be persistent to be lucky enough.
Starting to hike back down in the thick fog, it cleared up again until we reached the village again.
