As a photographer, we indirectly become a part of the memories of the people whose moments we capture. Having a good and friendly attitude is also essential during a photo session. Everything we do during the session will be remembered by the client, so being a photographer is not just about producing great photos but also about having a good personal demeanor.
Being a good photographer is certainly not easy. Some of my friends, including myself, are introverts, so interacting with people can be quite exhausting. However, to give the best to our clients, we will do whatever it takes. And when the clients appreciate our work with their happy smiles, all the exhaustion feels worth it.
The photo session I shared above was when I did a family photoshoot. At first, I was unsure if I could do it well, as I don’t have a baby myself. I was worried that during the session, the baby might be scared of me and start crying. However, the client reassured me that their child wasn’t afraid of meeting new people, which gave me the courage to go ahead with it.
And it turned out that what I feared didn’t happen. The baby was very friendly when meeting me. Although I was hesitant at first, the photoshoot went really smoothly. The baby only cried when hungry or bored, so I considered that normal—it wasn’t my presence that made them cry. Honestly, my fear wasn’t without reason, as some of my friends’ children were scared of me, which ended up making them cry. Maybe it’s because I have a scary face. Haha.
The photo session lasted quite a while, as it's not the same as photographing adult models. When shooting a family with a baby, sometimes we need to have extra patience. Babies, after all, are beings with the highest levels of boredom. We need to make sure they’re comfortable in every position—when they get bored sitting, we have to carry them, and when they get bored again, we may need to give them milk or their favorite toy. But I truly enjoyed this photoshoot because I became a part of their happy moment. And maybe one day, when the baby is all grown up, they might ask, 'Were the photos nice, Mom? Who took them?' and that will make me happy when I’m old
Of course, when doing a photoshoot for a family with a baby, you have to be ready with the camera’s shutter button at all times, so you don’t miss the moment when the baby laughs or smiles. A baby’s laughter and smile have their own magical charm. Even though the session was long, I felt happy whenever I saw the baby smile.
