Today I want to take you along on a little walk starting at a typical highland cottage and show you what I saw during the walk. We will see the sunset in the sky and highland cows 🐮 “fluffy cows as I call them”. They are so cute, I just had to share them and this walk with you. The location from Thornton Cottage is at the edge of Drumoak - Banchory in Scotland what is part of the UK 🇬🇧
At the end I added some bonus photos of my garden.
With this post I’m joining in at the Wednesday Walk #challenge. That is hosted by @tattoodjay every week on Wednesday.

Today’s photographic selection will be of 14 PHOTOGRAPHS
Dates : 9 January 2023 and 1 April 2025
The Photographs in this post are taken with my CANONR5 and some with my iPhone.
I will follow the time stamps on them. So it looks like you are experiencing my adventures on this walk to discover everything what I saw, like the little details seen through my eyes 😊
Location of the path we walked starting at the cottage (in yellow) we find on the following screenshot of Google Maps :
Let’s start our walk and begin with a view of part of the outside of the Thornton Cottage.
We really liked staying here, as it had everything you would need for a stay of several days or even longer. This was part of our journey to the western highlands where we moved to in 2023.
As we walk on, we pass the neighbours fields and in them there are some highland cows.
You can see it is a really cold day on the breath of the cow.
One of them came really close to me, checking out what I was looking at. Of course I took many photographs hahaha they are so cute. I could cuddle them… no, I still haven’t done that. One day ;)
Here the silhouette of the highland cow.
From the side… just look at how long its fur is. It will keep them nice and warm in the winter.
As we walk further we see a few more cows standing further away.
Next to our path there are loads of rocks covered with moss and other vegetation.
We look into the distance as we walk further around the bend.
More fields… and a beautiful sunset in the almost cloudless sky. This was at 15:49h
The light is changing quickly now.
We walked further and further… for about an hour. Somehow I didn’t take as many photos as I normally would do. Haha
I do hope you still enjoyed the views of this little walk with me 🙂
I thought, as these are not enough for a walk, walk. Let’s add some spring photos of our garden. Ok ok, no it still looks like winter wonderland here. ☃️
I walked around the garden yesterday and captured the following photos on 1 April 2025 to share with you today.
The view towards the frozen lake in the distance seen from the start of our forest.
The last days we had really warm days, yesterday 8 degrees Celsius and today it might reach 10 degrees Celsius.
The first signs of melt… the paths and areas we did maintain we see some ground coming through the ice and snow now.
The sides of the paths (and most snow in our garden) are still about 40 cm high.
Up the mountain we see little areas around trees and tree stumps are free from snow. So if it would continue with the warmer weather we would see more ground soon. Sadly end of the week it goes to -7 degrees Celsius again. Maybe… spring starts soon haha
…and here I say that’s all for today’s post my friends.
Join me next time for more updates, adventures, #stories and #photographs .
