In einer Zeit ohne Arbeit, oder besser, in einer Zeit auf der Suche nach einer Arbeit mit den idealen Arbeitszeiten, habe ich mich nebenbei gefragt, woher das Gemüse im Supermarkt kommt. Und kurz nachdem ich, während der Krise, auf ein Stelleninserat als Erntehelfer und Aufruf der Gemüsebauern wegen fehlenden Arbeitskräften reagiert habe, lernte ich den Ort kennen, woher das frische, regionale und gewaschene Gemüse in den Gemüseregalen kommt.
In a time without work, or better, in a time looking for a job with the ideal working hours, I wondered in passing where the vegetables in the supermarket came from. And shortly after I responded, during the crisis, to a job advertisement as a harvest helper and a call from the vegetable farmers for a lack of workers, I got to know the place where the fresh, regional and washed vegetables in the vegetable shelves come from.
En una época sin trabajo, o mejor dicho, en una época en la que buscaba un trabajo con el horario ideal, me preguntaba de pasada de dónde venían las verduras del supermercado. Y poco después de responder, durante la crisis, a un anuncio de trabajo como ayudante de cosecha y a una llamada de los hortelanos por falta de trabajadores, conocí el lugar de donde proceden las verduras frescas, regionales y lavadas de los estantes de verduras.
Und nun ist mein Ärger über leere Regale, wenn ich kurz vor Schliessung des Supermarkts noch schnell einkaufen will, verflogen. Und nach langer Zeit spürte ich wieder meinen Körper. In der ersten Woche hatte ich Muskelkater, Schmerzen in den Gelenken und konnte abends meine Finger kaum Bewegen. Denn vor dem gewaschenen Gemüse kommt der Dreck, der Schweiss und die gierige, aber anspruchsvolle Nachfrage der Komsumenten. Und die Summe daraus ist sehr harte körperliche Arbeit. Volle Kisten tragen, gebückt in praller Sonne Fenchel ernten, kniend in drückenden Hitze des Gewächshauses Radieschen oder Feldsalat pflücken und bei strömendem Regen auf dem Acker Zwiebeln aus dem Boden reissen. Dazu kam der ständige Kampf zwischen Mensch und Maschiene, bei der maschinellen Aussaat von Salat oder Kohl, beim stundenlangem Sortieren an der Schneid-/und Waschmschine für Radieschen oder dem zackigen Rüsten und Säubern von Zwiebeln am Fliessband. Und die Tage sind lang. Von Montag bis Freitag vom morgens früh um sechs Uhr bis manchmal spät abends um zehn Uhr. Und der Lohn ist tief. Auch kamen die meisten Arbeitskräfte aus West-/und Osteuropa und kaum aus der Schweiz. Dabei habe ich mich gefragt, ob der Schweizer eigentlich fähig wäre, in der Not, sein Grundnahrungsmittel selbst herzustellen?

Carrying full crates, harvesting fennel bent over in the blazing sun, kneeling in the oppressive heat of the greenhouse to pick radishes or lamb's lettuce and pulling onions out of the ground in the pouring rain in the field. In addition, there was the constant battle between man and machine, when sowing lettuce or cabbage by machine, sorting for hours on the cutting and washing machine for radishes or the rapid preparation and cleaning of onions on the conveyor belt. And the days are long. From Monday to Friday, from six in the morning until sometimes ten in the evening. And the wages are low. Also, most of the workers came from Western and Eastern Europe and hardly any from Switzerland. I asked myself whether the Swiss were actually capable of producing their own basic foodstuffs in times of need?
Y ahora ha desaparecido mi fastidio por las estanterías vacías cuando quiero hacer una compra rápida justo antes de que cierre el supermercado. Y después de mucho tiempo, volví a sentir mi cuerpo. En la primera semana tenía los músculos doloridos, dolor en las articulaciones y apenas podía mover los dedos por la noche. Porque antes de las verduras lavadas viene la suciedad, el sudor y la codiciosa pero exigente demanda de los consumidores. Y la suma de todo ello es un trabajo físico muy duro. Cargar cajas llenas, cosechar hinojos agachados bajo el sol abrasador, arrodillarse bajo el calor agobiante del invernadero para recoger rábanos o canónigos y arrancar cebollas de la tierra bajo la lluvia torrencial en el campo. A ello se añade la constante lucha entre el hombre y la máquina, al sembrar lechugas o coles a máquina, al clasificar durante horas en la máquina de corte y lavado de rábanos o al preparar y limpiar rápidamente las cebollas en la cinta transportadora. Y los días son largos. De lunes a viernes, desde las seis de la mañana hasta, a veces, las diez de la noche. Y los salarios son bajos. Además, la mayoría de los trabajadores procedían de Europa Occidental y Oriental, y casi ninguno de Suiza. Me pregunté si los suizos eran realmente capaces de producir sus propios alimentos básicos en tiempos de necesidad.
Nun habe ich mir noch etwas überlegt eine Krise mit gesunder Ernährung und ohne grosse Arbeitslosenzahl zu bewältigen. Neben motivierten Mitarbeiter bräuchte ich noch genaue Statiker, welche mir sagen könnten, wie viel die Flachdächer der Stadt tragen können. So würde ich in einer Nacht und Nebel-Aktion auf den Flachdächern Gemüsegärten entstehen lassen. So hätten viele Menschen etwas zu tun und gesundes BIO-Gemüsen, direkt vom Dach. Oder ich vertiefe mein Projekt vertikale Gärten in Direkter Aktion (einfach, schnell, günstig) zu erstellen, um Städte zu begrünen und Salat anzupflanzen.
Now I have thought of something else to overcome a crisis with healthy food and without a large number of unemployed. Besides motivated employees, I would need precise structural engineers who could tell me how much the city's flat roofs can bear. So I would create vegetable gardens on the flat roofs in a night and fog action. That way, many people would have something to do and healthy organic vegetables, straight from the roof. Or I could deepen my project to create vertical gardens in direct action (easy, fast, cheap) to green cities and grow lettuce.
Ahora he pensado en otra cosa para superar la crisis con comida sana y sin un gran número de parados. Además de empleados motivados, necesitaría ingenieros estructurales precisos que me dijeran cuánto pueden soportar los tejados planos de la ciudad. Así que crearía huertos en los tejados planos en una acción de noche y niebla. Así, muchas personas tendrían algo que hacer y verduras orgánicas saludables, directamente desde el tejado. O podría profundizar en mi proyecto de crear jardines verticales en acción directa (fácil, rápida y barata) para reverdecer las ciudades y cultivar lechugas.
