But in...negative. And in Black and White.
Born the third son, out of five, of Khan Kubrat, the leader in the lands we call Old Great Bulgaria. Those were...somewhere on the other side of the Black Sea. So, despite despite Khan Kubrat's teachings that a stack of spears is harder to break than single spears one by one, his sons did part ways under external pressure from other steppe tribes. Asparuch's followers migrated with him around the northern Black Sea coast and they crossed the Danube into what was back then territory of the Byzantine Empire, A.K.A. The Eastern Roman Empire. The Orthodox one after the Schism. Its capital was Constantinople, nowadays Istanbul in Turkey.
And I think it was a Constantine on the throne again at that time. Constantine the IV. He tried chasing us invaders away but Khan Asparuch had already said Here Bulgaria shall be! and so it was and still is. That happened in the year of 681 A.D.
Later on, Asparuch's son, Khan Tervel allied with the Byzantines to stop an Arab invasion and this is why we have Euro in Europe today instead of oil, camels, dates, and lots of sand. Thankfully, we still have some algebra and Arab digits instead of that XII-o-clock Roman standard.
This was all some time after Attila, and some time before the Vikings and Chenghis Khan.
The Proto Bulgarian's mono deity at the time was Tangra (associated with the Sun). The name also appears as the Khan Tengri 7010 m. high peak in the Tian Shan Mountain Range.
